Just and thought running alongside another thread re sewage being dumped into water coarse and the forever escalation of environmental restrictions being pushed onto us over sewage and the escalation of building houses etc , should we ALL stop using sewage sludge , what would happen?

It would be if everyone stopped taking it, I used to get it injected for free
Ito more a case that actually we are being pushed more re the environment and every man and dog looking over the hedge for a reason to get their teeth stuck into us when we are in a position to stop using a product which needs to be got rid of while raw sewage is still being dumped and yet nothing much seems to happen , we could make a stand here.

don't worry , the sewage companies would soon have their spin doctors woking on a story how farmers are making their lives more difficult by refusing this good wholesome heat treated organic fertiliser

What would happen? Panic in the boardrooms of the water & sewerage companies as they just don't have the storage capacity to stockpile it for any length of time. Then they'd put pressure on government to do something about it, and that's where it would get real interesting real quick.

Had similar a few years ago with paper waste. Company dealing with it upset usual customers and they had to haul it 100 miles to new farmers.

Been saying this for years. How do you stop some farmers from rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of even cheaper nutrients though?

assuming you'll never stop the spreading of sludge due to greed then perhaps voluntarily upping the regulation surrounding the use of it might be fun. Get the water companies to pay for independent testing of the sludge when it has been delivered for various nasties and make them remove the product should it not meet spec. I should think it will soon get more expensive for them as any deliveries not meeting spec would need landfill.

not sure it’s good for soil biology either considering the amount of bleach / anti bacterial stuff that’s flushed ???
Used to be some contracts that stipulated sewage sludge must never have been applied to the land,is that still the case?
