What a clown! Is she going to get one every year, and maybe for the next partner as well?
don't knock it, I'm going to get all my usernames and passwords tattooed on me, it'll be the most useful thing since adjustable spanners. I can never remember what or where they are!

Of course things like this aren't destructive either!

I didn’t watch the program and haven’t done so for a long time because it always raises my stress levels!
Why bugger up a weekend on a Sunday night?

But I cannot understand why trees are better than PP or growing Winter crops.
Trees that loose their leaves in Winter, cannot capture carbon then.
Whereas PP and growing crops, and even lawns carry on capturing it during daylight at temperatures above 4 decrees C.

On farming today this morning was a piece about the issues that Scotland has with the damage cause by the increase in visitor numbers to open spaces.

The "conservation " charities of course need free hand outs to make good the damage to the habitats!

I was reading about one river based charity in the SW that let an employee steal tens of thousands of pounds.
This charity also employs 49 people.
It's a business hiding behind a charity name !
Too many charities like this IMHO

I don't see what the big issue is, I've been planting trees and hedges for 20+ years and it's the best thing I've done for the farm, cattle have cover, they eat the crab apples on the floor, loads of birds summer and winter, I've made gallons and gallons of cider and fruit wines, we have an abundance of fire wood usually after the gales, the list goes on.. its the only week I HAVENT shouted at the tv.
What, you BURN the wood?!?!?!?

My OH called me through when it was on last night (I'm also undergoing self imposed countryfile abstention on account of my cardio health). "it's about planting trees tonight, you'll like it". Well, I am a forester in my day job so I thought why not? I'll swallow the kool-aid and get on board.

After about 35 minutes of tutting and shaking my head, and after the third dose of Royal indoctrination I left the room.

I know it’s totally politically incorrect, and I really do mean no offence. But why employ someone in a wheelchair if you need to travel across acres of rough land just to arrive there and prove that the occupant can plant a tree on perfectly good farmland that will henceforth be totally unproductive for food?

By all means plant trees in any areas that are suitable for them, and never exclude those who may be in any way disadvantaged. Let them plant trees in field corners, wasteland, brown field sites etc. But surely not on prime farmland?

But this of course is the BBC. So of course we must always toe that all inclusive liberal line.

It brings to mind the apposite adage that ‘A well fed man has many problems. A starving man has only one.’

My father was a wheelchair user. He would have loved the styles of wheelchairs the presenter uses and to have been independent in his running of his farm business. Not only a matter of dignity - he'd have been much less vulnerable to lead swinging staff, and devious contractors.

May you remain fit and well all the rest of your days.

To help save the planet countryfile was recommending if you don't have land you can plant window boxes.... quite how window boxes can sequester more carbon than is lost from the peat they are inevitable filled with is science beyond my understanding... :scratchhead: Also confused by the farmer whos field was wrecked by growling beetroot but is now using direct drilling into cover crops to improve his soils... not many veg crops can be established that way...

It will all do full circle, if you give these divs enough rope that decide the rules for us , world shortage , drought, war ,protectionism, ect , then there will be panic station ploughing up the grass verges and football pitches to feed the masses, you got to laugh at the planks!

Undoubtedly, but it won't happen on their watch. They'll be oblivious to their involvement in it all anyway. The whole tree planting bollox is just the most absurd sideshow. It's there to make people think something can be done whereas everything else they're doing is the actual problem. If they're focusing on farmers they're not focusing on themselves and their part in all of this.

But the even bigger issue is why any farmer would watch Countryfile in the first place....

Deciduous trees are devoid of leaves for about six months of the year. I don't know how the rotting leaves sequester Carbon or release it.
At least a good grass field is photosynthesising for most of the year. And Charles the Hypocrit will still be heating his numerous residencies and travelling everywhere in luxury.

I presume it’s Jake? At least he’s honest, he’s a great ambassador and he’s done a lot but he’s a link in the chain there.

can anyone, please explain to me the logic, of burning straw in power stations to produce electricity? or importing shredded trees form america ? i can see the point of say generating methane gas from waste food, sewage, to then make electric, thats a local home grown waste product that has to be got rid of ? but how the hell did the idea of growing crops, not food crops but crops grown like maize to then be transported at great cost, mess damage etc just like straw has to be transported, something thats a waste product such as food, meat industry waste products, yes if it saves it going in land fill ?

No, they cant truthfully explain the logic in it because it is not truthfully logical.
