Countryside productivity grants.

I bought a crush that i then bought foot trimming attachment that was also grant aided and it met all minimum spec....75cms wide, rotating rump bar, fully galvanised and here is the punchline......PRIMARILY USED FOR TRIMMING COWS FEET....which is exactly what we had it for.....they said it was not a purpose built crush.... i said it was.....ironically the foot trimming attachment was grsnt aided as well......it just felt like they were trying to trip us up!.....BE WARNED!

Back in the '70s I asked about the specifications required for a drainage grant, my reply from DEFRA ( or whatever they were were called back then)
" Oh but we couldn't possibly tell you the rules before you do the work".

Nuff said.

They never fund basic crushes. They will fund foot trimming crushes or they will fund attachments to a normal crush for foot trimming. But not a basic crush. Like they won't fund a bog standard slurry tanker, but they will fund dribble bar to fit on a standard tanker.

Bona fide contractors should be allowed to access the grants for things like dribble bars on slurry tankers, as they are often the ones doing that sort of work.

You’re probably right and I know they’ve got it hard too but I suspect they’d charge more and the farmer wouldn’t be in a better position to pay for the service.

They will fund crushes but they knock an amount off for the basic cost, around £500 or so. We had an IAE crush + scoop + foot trimming attachments as three items on the last round. I think the crush had to have a yoke, either manual or automatic, and some other specs that take it above basic spec. There's definitely crushes on this round too.

Thats exactly what i did and everything was up to the required spec....why should they offer a grant aided foot trimming attachment to make my crush a foot trimming crush and then tell me it wasnt a specialist crush.....what was it then?.....if they hadnt offered a foot trim attachment the crush i bought would never have been a trimming crush so they should not have offered the attachment.....and it seems they have done exactly the same in this second round.

The rules were quite clear. They are daft but clear. You didn't follow the rules. It really is that simple.
