I'm looking to use cover crops for the first time this autumn ahead of my spring break crop.
Normally I would use an over-wintered stubble as an opportunity to clear up some blackgrass. A shallow pass with the Carrier a couple of weeks after harvest followed by glyphosate ahead of the drill usually gets rid of a fair bit of it.
If I establish (probably by drilling) a cover crop shortly after harvest, will I get the same flush of blackgrass? I'm concerned that the cover crop will prevent so much blackgrass from germinating in the autumn.
The other issue is, if I'm unable to find someone to graze the cover pre-drilling, it may be difficult to penetrate the canopy and hit the blackgrass which has germinated with the glyphosate.
Any advice please!
