Is the forage crop that you gave N to thats been grazed before the swift that you spoke of previously neilo?

It was Zoom (mostly Winfred), so yes similar stuff to Swift. Managing it for regrowth this year, rather than being surprised when it does, as I was last year.

Certainly greened up well in the 7 days since this patch was grazed.:)

Had two really good days combining (Friday/Saturday) wheat coming in at 12.9 - 13.5 % MC... Those pictures of the Eastern counties remind me of the various "wash-outs" we have had over here in the west and growers in the east wonder what we are moaning about...tomorrow is not looking too good though..:(
Jim,
Some areas of the East had over 80mm on friday evening!

Jim, I like to think us getting the pain this year makes you feel life is fair. Haven't started the drier up once yet. 90% done but bloody grim out there now.

Had a bit of a battering here too.
Phoned contractor Saturday morning to say oats would cut middle of the week and that they were all standing. About 70% down now after yesterday's rain.

Barley and Wheat seems to have survived better. Barley very tousled looking but mostly still up and wheat fine despite looking like bigger crops than usual.

Over an inch of rain last night.

Two fields of OSR remaining were not too bad this morning however wind got up and crops dried in the afternoon and were turning whiter by the minute. Finished cutting one this afternoon. Field was on a brae, exposed to the wind, was quite thin and never going to yield well anyway ( a combination of rabbits/geese/pigeons) so wind really had a go at it. Probably lost at least 0.5t/ha compared to part of field cut yesterday. Other field is thicker and a bit more sheltered so hopefully won't be too bad.

Barley not too bad, but oats and wheat tousled in places.

Large proportion of tousled barley, wheat flattish but oats are pancake like. Wind was up to 75mph at the top of the house. Not a lot of actual grain on the deck here but the barley is brackled so some heads will be lost when we get to harvest them. Would have started tomorrow but it will take some drying after 58mm. Malting Barley has been in general thrashing well with yields up 0.2-0.4 t/acre on average and low N levels low screenings and in general good samples. The grain will be at best be weathered now. Really taking bad to it after such a fine summer. Looks like this week is written off!

Cheers BB

Was caught out by hail two years ago. When we swathed we have also been caught in a wet year by the bottom of the swath never drying out and if you get hail you would still have a fair %age losses. If you'd asked me a week ago I'd have said no chance but now I'm not so sure. As for cutting today we felt if we didn't go for it, there would have been nothing left.

glad you have got it cut at least you can dry it not worth anything lying on the ground .Wonder how the spring barley will fare that has been sprayed with rain forecast for rest of week
