Yes, that's normally the way.“Slingshot Politics” - Threaten a change in legislation so that keeping the status quo can be touted as a big win.
HMRC ignorant of facts - Nah, can’t be trueYes, that's normally the way.
The government flies kites all the time.
However this time hmrc actually changed the rules which had an immediate effect, then performed a uturn.
Can only think they were ignorant of the level of disruption they were causing until it was pointed out....

Knew a guy using his Ford Focus Diesel for dedicated courier work who got called in to the VAT office to explain away his annual claim for VAT back on 95,000 miles of motoring - His argument was that when he went out for “pleasure” purposes his GF would take them as a couple in her car, after all if you are covering 95,000 miles for work then driving further for “pleasure” was unlikely to be an option.20% vat which you couldn’t reclaim unless you could prove it’s 100% business use , lower road tax would
Not content with bashing pickups you've now decided to bash farmers that wore clothes at Lamma and that employees who earn a take home wage of £77356 or more are hard done by....Everyone has had their tax increased. be thankful you aren't a high rate tax payer on PAYE, they get hammered.
I've just put our two cars through their MOT's and had them serviced and one cam belt. That's over a grand. I don't get to claim the VAT back, or offset the bills against tax. As I eluded to up thread, there's a lot of ways businesses can and do offest things against tax. Just looking abck at Lamma, most of the clothes people would have been wearing would have been put through the farm. As was the truck, the fuel, the food and the day out.
The farm house needs repair, put it through the farm
The farm house needs heat and electric, put it through the farm. And the water.
The car goes through the farm
So do most of your clothes.
The phone and tablet goes through the farm
The business owner owns the premises, sets up a LTD company, which he/she/they/them own, and rents the premisis to the firm.
I know plenty of people spending 4 and 5 grand a year just on train tickets to get to work. They don't get to claim that back, or any tax relief on it.
You can still have your crew cab, you'll just have to treat it as a car, as that's what most are being used as, if you don;t want to pay that, then get a regular or extended cab. They are, after all, commercial vehicles.
Which bits was I wrong about? Putting most of your living expenses through the company, car, house, a lot of clothes etc and no commute, then pay yourself £2.50 a week and expect everyone else to manage on the same amount. Not content with bashing pickups you've now decided to bash farmers that wore clothes at Lamma and that employees who earn a take home wage of £77356 or more are hard done by....
Are you upset about tax rules for farmers/self- employed or farmers bending them slightly, here and there?Which bits was I wrong about? No, I'm just pointing out that farmers and the self employed get a lot of tax breaks and that they can offset a lot of their more expensive living expenses against tax, which most other people can't. Self employement isn't for eveyone one, and not for me, but don't tell people how poor you are because you only have minimal personal drawings on the business, when you have a 50 odd thousand pound car to ride around in on the company, the house is on the company, as is the gas, water, electric, council tax, phone, tablet and most of your clothes. Never mind the cash jobsAre you upset about tax rules for farmers/self- employed or farmers bending them slightly, here and there?

Coast?I'm not telling you that.
The trade off, as some see it, is the comparative precariousness of self employment, lack of paid holidays etc.
Millions of employed people in this country "coast" in salaried jobs, i know several who freely admit this.
It's harder to coast in self employment.
Each to their own i guess.
Do the bare minimum, keep head down, collect paid holidays and pensions, "work" from home with software on computer that makes it think you are there etcCoast?
Why on Earth can you NOT become self employed? No, I'm just pointing out that farmers and the self employed get a lot of tax breaks and that they can offset a lot of their more expensive living expenses against tax, which most other people can't. You cant legally claim VAT back or deduct against tax the vast majority of clothes you wear to work as a self employed person.Which bits was I wrong about? Putting most of your living expenses through the company, car, house, a lot of clothes etc and no commute, then pay yourself £2.50 a week and expect everyone else to manage on the same amount.
If they are branded clothing, IE your company logo on, then they can be claimed, a £200 pair of jeans can’t unless branded with your logoYou cant legally claim VAT back or deduct against tax the vast majority of clothes you wear to work as a self employed person.
