Crops under snow

Looking for a bright side here !

I guess crops under snow are at least protected from the lower temperatures and chill factors we are getting ?

Is the snow actually a bit of a blessing ??

if you have snow cover yes, might be problem getting it through the combine!!!!!

i'd say so,creates a mini microclimate all on it's own.not ideal but the best of what we have on offer for now and into April.

yall be surprised how much is whipped away by a drying wind,it doesn't all go through the percolation process.
slow dry thawing process is whats needed.

No snow here. Crops are being freeze blasted and shrinking by the hour. Bound to be loosing tillers and no let up forecast for this week. Not what we needed.

Yesterday one of my fields of osr has thousands on it - sat on top of the snow about a ft deep not trying to eat

They must be hungry and waiting for the snow to clear !! Was a very odd sight

I remember in the 80s when we grew w barley, if the snow stayed for a week or 3 we often got patches of snow rot.

I have now,reckon its an old wives tale.no doubt snow brings some stuff from the atmosphere but not enough to make any odds.more likely the grass was lusher after it melted and folks came up with the saying but it was mostly getting protection from frost and not getting eaten.

a blessing from the point of helping the plants to get over the cold. even 1 cm of snow cover is a good insulation.
now if it doesn't let the air in, it will increase snowmold (trust you know what I mean), which poils down to nutrition of the plant how good she can "resist2 the mold.
The good is that after the snow goes the prices will increase, my expectation as then they will realise how much crops are gone, fullstop.
