Correct cross compliance ended, there was a consultation to see if the 2m and hedge rules became law.

This gives a summary of what was legal anyway

does it say in there, can see anything directly about it, i love the bit on the bottom of it, if you want to report a hedge offence here's the number, They want to make criminals of us all.

A lot of the cross compliance stuff like the 2m rule/ hedge cutting dates is going to be made into law stopping you doing it.

On the TB front from the 1st Jan 2024if you are late testing/ do not test in your window they now have changed the law so you can be fined upto £5000.

The consultation ended in sept I think there was definitely a link to it on here. As to what happened going forward, not sure when a decision is due

2/3rds of an acre in that 2m strip…..if the field is 20 acres!
Hardly though Walton, bit wishful thinking? If a 2 metre strip then presumably a hedge next to it, and thus are you actually going to be able to crop the whole 2 metres? And the edge round the fiekld is that truly 12 tonne hectare ground? I appreciate some farmers hold a grudge against DEFRA for the imposition of the 2 and 1 metre protection zones but do they truly mean the difference between financial failure or not? Tilting at windmills comes to mind. But each to their own. Cheers.

Isn't the field edge, the outer two metres of the field, the most fertile with more OM. Provided it's kept clean and not run about on as is the next three metres in, it can yield like the rest of the field.

If it isn’t yielding like the rest of the field, I suggest it is the farmers job to discover the reasons. My fields average less than 20 acre, and consequently have an even greater proportion of land lost to that 2m zone. I have not remotely enjoyed the experience of being unable to farm 3% of my land to a whim of a politician.

Shurely it is mainly due to being the edge of the field than due to the hedge?
If you move the edge 2m from the hedge and you still have the same issue, just a slightly smaller field?
