Cultivator drill

Thanks for that have you any pictures was this a demo of the two drills was it stright into stubbles any difference in slug pressure will you be following it through to combine before deciding?

We were just being shown around someone elses trials, pre stem extension.
The Mzuri area looked OK but there was a pronounced corrugated effect on the surface. The DTS was more uniform in appearance and looked like it had slightly better potential. But as mentioned above that was just a subjective judgement on the day and I have no idea if there was any significant difference at harvest as it wasn't our trial.
We did look at several other fields sown with the DTS on a few of farms, and the uniformity of establishment corner to corner stood out.
It would be interesting to hear from existing users what its like to live with a DTS over a few seasons, but thats probably better done on another thread.

I'm liking the look of the pottinger drill but possibly to close to a vaderstad?

Tried the pottinger before we bought the horsch. Really liked the drill but dealer (trp) was a distance away. Not sure who is our closest dealer now. Probably need to go edinburgh direction.

@juke may be able to comment on the Muzuri / DTS trial, I have no idea if there was any yield difference once in the shed, as @Sitting Pretty & @PSQ said, when walked the DTS area looked much easier on the eye.

Lemken . My neighbour used one this time and all his wheat looks fantastic. And there really pleased with the job it's done too. That's what I'm going to go for when my drills up for changing.

A lot of lemken combi drills about here. Issue for me is the 4m cultivator drill doesn't fold.

In all seriousness, why change? Horsch make great drills. I'll bet the one you have places seed as accurately as any new machine you'd buy.

Just looking at the options really. Only issues we have had with it are coulters breaking off (newer legs much stronger) and punctures (not exactly a 5 minute job to sort, especially the middle tyres).

It would also be nice if they had some spacers between coulter bearing and disc. Then as disc wears, can take spacers out and get a lot more life out of the disc.

Kverneland MSC?

Not many Vad Spirits around here. The dealer can't wean them off Rapids! Very good drill though. Good levelling boards on the front. If I'd stayed with min till I would have looked harder at one.

Seen the Kuhn in our dealers yard it had no paddles at all just discs wheels then coulters so I wasn't keen on the look of it.
Its a shame you didn't ask as the Espro can be kitted with levelling paddles as an option as well as track eradicators or a full width front tyre packer.
the omission of the levelling paddles on a standard machine means a lot lower power requirement to pull the drill (30-40hp/m) at speed.

There were quite a few rapids around here 10-15 years ago, were nicknamed the steamroller!

As ham says, if soil not in perfect condition at sowing, they packed the soil and gave poor emergence. Or crop failure if rain between sowing and emergence.

Coulters after the press wheels are much more successful.
