Hi I have a David brown 1190 but changing gears can be a struggle and more often than not I'm stopped before I can change gear. I think it's a synchromesh gearbox and changing up the gear can often end up in gears grinding. Does anyone have an idea?

There is syncromesh on 2nd and 3rd gear only, should be very smooth to changeI will check those things listed. What does the synchromesh mean on the 2nd and 3rd gear. I don't completely understand it. Thanks
Thanks. Was it a big job do you know?We had a 1390 that went hard to shift gears cleanly like yours and it was the thrust bearing on the clutch
Thanks for the reply. So if that's the case you should be completely stopped and take off in 2nd gear and move into 3rd. Basically meaning yo shouldn't change from 1st to 2nd on the move? Is that correct. ThanksThere is syncromesh on 2nd and 3rd gear only, should be very smooth to change
If you are referring to having problems with changing either of the short gear levers on the left they have no syncromesh and not designed to change on the move
Do you know if the gearboxes are the same. ThanksThink the 1190 was based on the 885, being a smaller 3 cyl tractor, the 1290.developed from the 990.
You can change to second or third while moving no problems, should be very smooth, you can also change down to first while moving, but not so smooth, and a bit of a crunch perhaps but that is fineThanks for the reply. They probably are the sameDo you know if the gearboxes are the same. Thanks
This is where my problem is, it doesn't change smooth and crunches or grinds changing gears but only on the move. The 885 and 1190, or the 1190 and 1290?thanks againThey probably are the same

11 and 1290 probably similar but I'm not certainThe 885 and 1190, or the 1190 and 1290?thanks again
Would it just be easier try and get a gearbox?Syncromesh problem
Big job unfortunately
Maybe, but you still need to remove the cab and split the tractor 2 placesWould it just be easier try and get a gearbox?
Would the tractor also need splitting in 2 if I was to try and fix the synchromeshMaybe, but you still need to remove the cab and split the tractor 2 places
