Day on dairy farm,

Do find there is more time to foot trim, vaccinations ?
Yeap next week when we start back we will run all cows through the race 20 at a time for I b r booster and the vaccination for scours( sorry forget what it’s called).
Following day I will teat seal all the r2s it will take me all day but as we are shut down it matters not
We foot trim in December as we are winding down. So it’s still quite easy to do 30 a day as milking takes very little time then.
But any follow ups are trimmed In January.
One thing that’s makes life much easier is that we run the herd in one group. Much less hassle.

Its depends, winter time all stock inside so more work feeding bedding etc, but no field work so plenty time to do livestock work. Summer time all stock outside so less time to feed and no bedding but alot more field work. I would say we are quieter during November - February, March & April can be busy with stock still inside and field work to be done. Try and do all the rountine vaccinations, blood testing, freeze branding etc done during November - February.

Worst of both worlds here, stock inside at night so having to take them food and take it away again once its been through them, and out during the day, as are the youngstock so have to move 2 or 3 fences a day.

I try and increase the daily workload instead of having one off busy days, especially in the spring. Cut it down to the bare minimum at weekends though.

And catch up on milking parlour maintenance
