Hi @primmiemoo, thanks for the sentiment. Unfortunately these "feelings" have been around for a long time. I'm not sure if it's just the way the family rocks (my mam was crying and wondering why no one else in the family was. Just not how we roll) or depression or that it hasn't hit home yet?

i think it could be some kind of 'self defense mechanism'...i'm a bit the same......the job of day to day survival overiding the need to grieve

looking at some recent posts i could well suffer from dysthymia :scratchhead:.....except when i'm out and about i seem to cheer everyone else up :)......apart from those lads at the post office:rolleyes:...nothing cheers them up:banghead:

Anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and all sorts of other negative 'things' can give you a huge range of physical symptoms. However it is always a good idea to talk to your GP and get yourself checked out, heart, lungs, blood tests etc to make sure that at least your body is ok. And don't forget to tell them how you're really feeling.
Best wishes.

Personally, I had always had problems with irritability and fatigue but it was only in recent years that I was to discover that my problems were predominantly diet linked and avoiding wheat and gluten containing products drastically reduced my problems with fatigue and irritability.

I came from a large family and we were often like the family depicted in the Hovis nothing added advertisements. Bickering, arguing, and fighting were regular events and made for some disquieting times.

Events that I would normally take in my stride become mind buckling and debilitating if I have been consuming products containing wheat and gluten. Strange init?

Chris :)

if I could only get rid of the fatigue I would be able to manage my depression , do you find stressful moments and confrontation or even an argument accelerate s the fatigue a lot , I’m a farmer and a contractor and I’m finding the low energy very frustrating and when I get v tired I get very irritated
I think it's cyclical. The mind affects the body and vice versa. I'm taking more time off than ever before. At least one afternoon a week. (WOW, living the dream [emoji2]). It helps. Proper balanced diet. But yes, if I've been working hard and I'm tired if something small goes wrong I get upset straight away, where as if I feel more energetic I can keep things in perspective. I'm not turning this into a Brexit debate, but I really couldn't handle more work and more stress and I can't be the only one. On a more positive note, I've just had apple crumble and ice cream .

Eliminating other possible problems is important. It's not good to keep guessing and worrying about have I got this or that. If you know what the problem is you can eventually deal with it, step by step, one day at a time. Look for small positives where you can (or big ones!). It'll give you control over your depression.

Thanks I have a good relationship with my psychiatrist and I do attend a psychotherapist which I found good but they both recon I have a good handle on it , sometimes when your not well it’s hard to see the wood from the trees

I have fatigue as well. Not sure how or where it started but it's irritating. Have to have a lie down every afternoon else i can't do anything sensible. Can't even string a sentence together at its worst.

Start here and if it makes sens follow it through.
You also need to identify activities that truly are restful/restorative. It's not always sleep, it could be a soak in a bath or a good film actually do you more good.

Maybe check our ideas on the Chronic fatigue (ME) WB sites for managing the fatigue sid of your difficulties.

If anybody here would have any advice on how to manage fatigue it would be appreciated , I can manage the depression ,I got a heart attack two years ago and damaged my heart and that leaves me tired so any advice please
Pull out rest up...what you don’t do today can wait til tomorrow.
Break tasks down into small lumps and pull out, rest and come back to it later. Land and farming is timeless, sure you need to get tasks done but most aren’t really as time critical as we believe.....so do like I do, move away,go have lie down and come back to job later.

Iirc it has been mentioned before but the thyroid, if not working correctly, can also cause symptoms of extreme tiredness and depression so if there is a history of thyroid problems in the family it may be worth mentioning it to the doctor. It would also seem that there is a link between low vit/min levels, digestive problems and thyroid disease and some websites recommend trying to follow a gluten free and not too low calorie/high good fat diet to try to help improve physical and mental health

Best wishes to you all and I hope that 'things' start to get easier again over the next few weeks.

This is the NHS choices info on underactive thyroid https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/underactive-thyroid-hypothyroidism/

There are other websites that give a longer list of symptoms ie Thyroid UK if you want to look into the subject further.
Well said Jade, like many on this thread I have been through some dark times, there are all sorts of reasons for it but getting sorted. Recently I have sorted out my medication and got the balance right between thyroid and serotonin replacement and I feel like a different person and can cope when the black dog does rear it’s head.
Well worth asking your GP if they have checked it out

For me .exercise but take it slow to start with. My heart attack was 15 years ago . I took up cycling 3 months ago after leaving it 4 years ago . first few weeks I found it a struggle to cycle up the driveway .But kept at it doing a little more each time .Yesterday I did 23 miles. I spend a lot of time in the office and can be very stressfull at times Cycling has helped me escape from this

Just read about this on Facebook. To be honest it kind of hit me hard. On the one hand I feel sorry for him and what he was going through, on the other hand I'm angry for what the selfish barsteward has put that poor young woman and family through. The worse thing is I see so much of myself in the way he is described. The worrying about everything, the anti-social behavior. There have been thoughts in my mind of ending it all in the past, but luckily I have never went that far. To bring somebody else into all of this like he did and then not taking the help he was offered, he took the easy way out and left her to deal with the aftermath. I know I shouldn't judge, but I can't help but feel sorry for the wife and the kids.

@Dangerous Dan @Bear101 have you had your thyroid and serotonin levels checked as your symptoms sound very similar to mine. I now take both thyroid and serotonin replacement tablets and once we got the levels sorted it’s made a hell of a difference. Used to be so tired and have to push myself to get anything done yet I couldn’t sleep. Still struggling with the sleep but have my old energy back and a jest for life I thought I had lost for ever
As to talking about stuff, I found it made me feel terrible and wore me out but it does make it real. So many of us hide our illness away, once you start talking about it it not only informs others of how your feeling but you start to realise there’s ways round the issues and a good future. It doesn’t work for everyone but I was told to think about what my enjoyable day out would be like and then work towards it and make it happen

I haven't checked but I should since Dad's got a thyroid problem. Never thought about it. I found talking on here helps me a lot. Clarfies my thoughts somehow. But I have noticed if I'm feeling down my energy disappears, when I perk up my energy comes with it. Thanks for the suggestion.
