Decent shorts...

Serious problem this.

Can anyone recommend me some decent shorts?!

Old faithfuls gave up and wifey presented me with 3x m&s latest cargo offering. Absolute rubbish, and they have all ripped in some fairly vital places seemingly within minutes.

Not really a fan of the 'I play rugby/drive a silage cart' micro-short, and a cargo pocket or two for gloves and knife etc much preferred.

TIA!

Highly recommend Swazi poley shorts.
They may be a bit short for your liking having reread your OP, but they certainly last! And they dry quickly enough to put on the next day, I probably wear mine 350 days a year and this current pair has lasted 8 years. I had their moley shorts before that, and they lasted well over ten years.

That's a lot of wear for $60!

I did buy their micro dribacks but they are only much use for hunting IMO, having the waterproof bum in them gives me a very sweaty backside for regular use; brilliant when you sit on a wet quad seat, though.
Or a wet log, a big pool of blood :bag:

I got some off Amazon.
The button has come off one pair, but apart from that very strong.
Just looked, no longer available.

Craghoppers Kiwi Shorts are pretty good; they've got a decent pocket on the leg with a smaller phone pocket inside it and don't end up with pockets full of straw. You can often buy them for less than £20 on Amazon but prices can vary by the day. Don't tumble dry the Craghoppers belt that comes with them, it'll shrink and make you feel fat but the shorts are fine.

What @Pieces_of_Eight said - I just go for British army shorts; new ones from eBay. Just work out your waist size in cm and you’re away.

Eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTP-Shorts/283470633340?hash=item42002a997c:m:m9F6aLN9UYu_CQPlp8xx8Mg

(Army stuff is sized in NATO sizing; my shorts are 30/88/104 (leg length/waist/seat); most important is the 88 waist, which is about 34inches)

I love army stuff; the camo pattern doesn’t put me off (as it might some)- I see it as a tacit support of our armed services. They are well made, with proper zips and decent pockets (2x map pockets and 3 other pockets), and you know that next time you want a pair they will be pretty much exactly the same.

Also cheap! -Usually a new pair for £15 or less!

I have the opposite problem to most of you. I find most cargo shorts are too thick and warm. I must try on about 30 or 40 pairs of shorts every summer in the quest for something to keep cool in. I know they don't last as well but I don't mistreat them when I find a good pair in spite of wearing them all summer long. My two favourite pairs are showing signs of wear, they both have extra ventilation now so I'm having to step up the search.

I've got scruffs trade shorts and while they are lightweight to wear they are tough like their trousers with plenty of pockets. Still look like new after 3 years of wear.
I was looking at some Scruffs shorts yesterday and really liked them apart from the pockets were those big square tradesmen type pockets and I just thought that's a fast track route for phone/keys/knife to end up falling out

Plan B today is to go look at screwfix shorts see what they're like

Finally a topic of import that we can our teeth in to... I'll admit to favouring the heavier type of cotton rugby shorts. I don't want to carry too much crap with me and the pockets are enough for what I need, they are cool and airy, and - although I hate the damned things - are fine if I have to wear overalls.

@slackjawedyokel Combat shorts! :yuck: They look good but I think I'd lose my self-discipline and end up carrying half a tool box around with me... Anyway, I was a soldier and the thought of going into anything hot with shorts on is not pleasant* - mind you, I was in before the days when trousers were issued with knee pads built-in, and remember being laughed at by some lads when I sewed bits of kip mat into my trousers' knees. Made a big difference. :)

*Although I've family who fought in Rhodesia, in shorts & vellies, & both knees & ankles survived... :scratchhead:

Never had a problem with the M&S ones!
