Yep, as expected.!! Why do we have to diversify to produce cheap food for the unwashed that do not want to work.? The sooner the NFU get of there backsides and drop all sponsoreship from the supermarkets et al the better. My previous thread disapeared rather quickly. Now come on, there are several of us on here attend our branch meetings, at the first meeting after harvest let's all call for dropping the cartel and see what happens.

Defra have hot to help fill the 20 billion hole created by amongst other things the 21% junior doctor pay increase.

Bye bye SFI.

“But George Dunn, chief executive of the Tenant Farmers Association, told Farmers Weekly the mood music he was hearing was positive, and that he expected the savings to be made from operational costs.”

let’s hope so

@Clive I am not suggesting it was moderated Clive. It just did not gain much traction.!! It was entitled 'NFU and Supermarkets'. I know NFU is a dirty word on here but I do believe in fighting from the inside.!! I would like a few of us like minded NFU members to have a real go at the first of the Winter meetings to get the Supermarket sponsoreship of the NFU AGM(Shindig) removed as soon as possible.

Wont work because of the corruption between the nfu, brc, aic, adhb, rt and supermarkets. We are all stupid cash cow farmers in their eyes.

@warksfarmer Defeatist attitude, I believe that if enough of us can get a motion passed at branch then County or region the top table will get a feel for the mood. Things need to change.!! But the NFU has not got it's own forum, which is a shame. as they would get a much better feel for the mood of the average farmer.

They know as they read this one, but dont care so will carry on taking the p**s out of us.

Easy to save costs at DEFRA without effecting farmers.

Get rid of some pointless red tape and the muppets that administrate it.
Privatise the EA and make them accountable for everything they spend. The EA's work eithic is shocking and there are far too many management just shuffling paper around !
Stop checking maps every other year and removing 0.001ha from fields because a puddle has appeared or a tree is in leaf and shading part of a field.
Take the protection off badgers so farmers can deal with their excess numbers instead of a cull that costs £millions.
Slim Natural England down.

That will save them at least 10% of their budget !! The pensioners can have their heating allowance back now.

According to Rachel Reeves statement to Parliament on Monday 29th, Departments are to be asked for a 2% cut in spending. Defra budget for 2024-25 is here:
Given that this funds Natural England and the Environment agency as well as farming support, where would you suggest the savings be best found ?

I know where to start. Roll RPA, NE and the EA into DEFRA then get rid of their boards, a massive chunk of their senior management, and a good chunk of their middle management. If there's any other similar non-departmental public bodies and executive agencies do the same to them.

Wont be any staff cuts. SFI payments will be reduced. No BPS. Increased input prices. Reduced market prices. All part of the grand plan for a land grab.
We're more optimistic here.

Part of the Ts & Cs of SFI is that RPA can terminate 3 year contracts early. (6 months notice?). It's unlikely this will happen because Defra knows farmer confidence is not running high. Defra needs farmers to fulfill Net Zero bollox as land in SFI ticks the environment box.

Though we here on our micro sheep business (sllightly more than a hobby) suspect that land in SFI may not get APR/BPR some time soon - in fact, we're counting on it for our grazing licences/keeps we rely on. And we haven't signed up for any SFI.
