so we've moved on and the dynamic has changed...before it was more my friend and Mrs spin was the +! and now vice versa

I was wrong.....again....about the birdlife....here in more familiar territory it,s more like home...where we were ...with more woodland...perhaps it was more woodland birds

I was gonna leave my plans for my return until I got home but I think I,ll drizzle them out over the next couple days cos .....once home....I,ll be back into maelstrom....it might be a bit random/eclectic for which I apologise

up until 2015 the farm had done pretty well but looking back it had come at a price....specialist malting barley and ad maize had done well but it came a cropper in 2015....thebarley contracts offered nearly halved and we lost ad maize...we had blackgrass and indices had plunged to zero...add in my father passing and it was not the best scenario...add in the fact we,d been spe nding profits on doing a barn Conversion unborowed at the expense of machinery replacement

the period 2016 to 2020 we lost quite a lot of money...we had it but no e the less..to me..it was a personal shame..I beat myself up...until now...I,ve realised half those losses would have occurred anyway and the other I can mitigate because the farm needed it...if I can draw a line under that I can perhaps move on

so the central problem is iht relief...a small acerage to turn a farming profit to justify...my accountant doesn't add bps to farming side....something I find strange..I mean I can see why...but bps is central to cf agreements?

I,ve been trying to maximise out put but I have to admit this is wrong area for arable grass really

the case has also altered...strawbs now uses the farms pp...something that doesn't,t help iht but valuable doversification...anyway farm wise it weakens the sheep's position...all the sheep pp is now rented

our new Cs agreement will be counted as farm output...priority thus is that it doesn't get wasted chasing sheep profit

I,m starting to ramble...time to get ready for bordeuax trip avec le hunt de la tattoo parlour

Spin, most farms will show a loss without bps, at least you've got some diversification so better than us for a start, maybe a bit early but one way to avoid IHT is to pass things down, never too early to plan, dad died in 2018 it was expensive but he took good advice a few years before, needs to be someone you trust though (not your accountant!)

None of my business but... if your accountant doesn't put BPS down as 'farm income' was does he put it down as?? It would make the 'perceived loss' greater than it should be which is not good as you say for IHT, it sounds like the farm paid for the barn conversion and maybe the farm receives the income from it?? the problem would be if the letting makes more than the farm?? which is why you need the BPS including in the profit/loss as well as CS money

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
