Helpful neighbours scabby ram has got in with ewes and jumped in with another couple of bunches when tying to catch him ( and yes it’s definitely scab ) . So........As above , does dipping ewes during tupping effect tupping rates , or if I wait till straight after tupping until I dip will it effect my scanning / dry ewe rate .

Are your ewes with your tup now?
Ive dipped a lot of sheep just before the tup went out and no bother

Would you consider an under the skin injection a week or so after taking the ram away. I wouldn’t use it as an annual way of controlling scan but maybe under the circumstances I would

The absolute worse time to chuck sheep through a dip will be just as they are being tupped, or during the 3-4 weeks afterwards when the embryos are implanting.
If the scab has definitely only been introduced with that ram, then it won’t be causing any particular problem to those sheep until the eggs have hatched and multiplied. I would leave them alone (after shooting the ram) until they are at least 3-4 weeks in-lamb, after which they should be less likely to be effected by gathering for dipping/injection.

I was thinking the same. Gather and dip around Christmas/new year. Nothing should take any harm then.

Does everyone have a neighbour like that? Cos I thought it was just me:banghead::banghead:
2 neighbours here, 1 has a seriously big store lamb buyer send to him ( currently can’t graze 80acre as their next to it) other neighbour was praised on here the other day funnily enough, also buys store lambs in for the farm next to me, more often than not scab.

Hope this helps awnser your question,

I have dipped thousands of sheep at different stages of pregnancy and have experienced no issues.

I dip all of my own ewes for the last 5 years, 3-4 weeks after tupping as i buy a lot in every year and had no issues with scanning rates of abortions.
