dirtywater storage

have been looking at putting in a 40,000 - 80,000 litre dirty water storage tank, until I found out that one of the tanks needed to be encased in concrete. now to encase a 80,000L tank needs in the region of 50-60m3 of concrete.

We are on clay loam soil with marl underneath.

Anyone got any cost effective solutions or concacts.
I did wonder about post and panels sealed and then poured a 6" slab in bottom.

Herefordshire based.

just had a thought,
Is it a really bad idea to dig trench for the walls, like a footing at the appropriate depth and thickness. then dig out middle and concrete a base in after to seal the floor.

would have walls going across the tank. with a bit of faf and effort it could be a cost effective tank. would mesh walls ect.

good idea or really bad idea?

Have thought about that but using concrete panels instead, by digging some holefor rsj concrete them in then dig down to the top of that concrete and let the panels in and dig out the centre and then concrete the base

You should really inform the EA and they may tell you what you can or can't do. We have just finished a complete system, see my facebook page, a link is at the bottom of this post. You may need to scroll down to about four weeks ago.

I was going to do it like a experience concrete laying company was going to do.

Casting a footing as a wall seems heck of a lot longer lasting than a fibre glass tank.

How you manage to get a neat enough hole at depth? Surely it be more trench like?

not sure, but I want to store a lot of roof water and find the cheapest long term way of doing it, it has to be dark to keep the algae from growing and not a huge fan of tin tanks with liners and plastic roofs etc just think they arent a long term solution, I may just dige a big hole and then put the steels in then panels and back fill just looking for any tips and advice at the moment

You haven't scrolled back far enough.
I installed an actual dirty water system, the concrete underground tank was about 60cubic metres, all stages of construction are shown. Every below ground store for dirty water/slurry has to have a design life of 20 years without maintenance because of the well known danger of entering such a tank.

I'll have a better look when on computer. I'm looking at 60 to 80 cube ish. It's mainly to catch rain water after it lands on a yard. Weak dirty water I guess. I want to get a water pump system set up to utilise this rain water as much as I can in the summer months.
