Disco 4 crankshaft failure

Lots and lots of these seem to fail for some reason. Some of them even within the three year warranty period. I've mentioned this before quite recently.
The ones I know of have had new short motors fitted under warranty. Not really satisfactory in the case of one of them which had iron filings through the oil system and all kinds of fluid leaks after repairing it. On a £70,000 car.

You've probably already priced a new or exchange engine for it?

i dont know for fact, but Bill Carr engineering (Shrewsbury) could be a good bet.
They did a Nissan engine for me, and no complaints.

I'll probably get shot down again in a duck shoot, but our local non franchised Landrover dealer has a big sign on the counter saying that the recommended service intervals of the new Discos/Range Rovers are far too long, and this causes situations that the OP is in. To my mind an oil change snd filter every 5000 miles is cheaper than buying a new engine, whatever the experts say.

the cause might be contamination of the engine oil. there are a few manufacturers that are having problems with this and it is caused by excess carbon in the oil which usually comes from an injector leaking gas which gets in to the cankcase causing the pickup strainer to block and cause oil starvation.kia have the problem with the sorento , mazda have the problem with one of their diesels, the injectors are enclosed inside the rocker cover and as such any gas leak is trapped inside the crankcase. leaking injectors is an engine killer. Mitsubishi used to have an oil only change on the shogun at 5k

The Lion engine, that's the V6 Ford/Peugeot engine we are concerned with here, has oil condition monitoring which should detect any thickening of the oil due to such contamination and provide a service warning light on the dash very prominently and in good time.

How old is your Disco? Mines just over 7 years old and done 119000.

I've taken 4 disco fours to over a 100k none have ever had engine problems! I think the shells spin so nothing to do with long service intervals

Individual examples might well go perfectly to high mileages but since the D4 and continuing into early production of the new model RRS and RR, there has been a significantly higher incidence of these failures than one would expect. I mentioned this before more than once, but as with other matters I was poo-poo'd by some commentators.

I do believe that the latest vehicles are designed so that a new straight in-line Ingenium six cylinder engine can be fitted as soon as it becomes available. This loss of market for the Lion engine is partly why and how Ford can see fit to offer the Lion in the 2019/20 Ford Ranger as well as the US built F150, starting fairly soon [as in within 12 months].
This will save LR massive cost because the new engine will be a modular progression of the Ingenium, sharing a high proportion of parts with the four cylinder engines. Not sure whether it will be a better engine than the Lion but it will increase JLR profit margins.

I know of a local disco 4, 90 k miles engine gone bang, £11k for a new one, as it's been serviced by LR they are offering £2k !
For the vehicle to buy back as is? I'm surprised that the engine is 'only' £11k. Perhaps that's plus fitting and VAT?

This is why I am not particularly keen on buying a V6 pickup truck. ;)

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
