One of the rams needs a new seal , 525-58 , one of the upright rams , hoping to change the seal in situ but not quite worked out how to isolate the ram with the boom up in the air and out the way , tia

Taking the pipes off will not release pressure as the anti-drop valve prevents that (if a hose blows the boom does not drop) , as above block end of boom up on something strong, move lever to take strain off both pins, put strap around ram and top of boom to hold ram, remove pin - ram to boom, lower ram down controlling with strap on to blocks of wood under boom, - you may be able to then put a rag over anti drop valve and remove slowly to release pressure, then either work on it in that position or take base pin out and work on it off the machine - it depends on how tight the end cap is - sometimes better with lower end still connected to machine.

As above prop end of boom up high ish or ideally working height get slack in end pin and strap ram around boom remove pin,

think I then lowered ram onto chassis and ‘lifted’ it up ie pushed rod out. Them remove pressure drop valve off block on ram and undo the end cap once you gave it out theses some wide seals pull these out and there is a peg holding the nut from moving around on rod end make sure you remove this as you will not get nut off rod otherwise!

I did mine in situ seemed loads easier than removing it as I was on my own.

If you do it methodically it’s actually a very straightforward job especially if you leave it on the machine. Mine was a lot easier than I thought and first I had ever done.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
