Discovery 2 td5 running rough

Hi again all,
More problems
Discovery 2 td5 running rough at idle and rough running and couldn't pull the skin off a rice pud without loads of revs.
Fuel pump and filter changed and stuck wastegate freed up.A tiny bit of oil cleaned from red ecu plug all to no avail.
I don't have a diagnostic tool and was wondering if there wete any simple checks I could do or is it a garage job with people sucking through pursed lips?

I had exactly the same problem with my TD5 quite some time ago, and it was the Injector harness thats the problem:

I hear what you saying but there was very little oil although there was some so not convinced but seems cheap enough to change anyway if only to eliminate it.
Seen some on Ebay and some sold with rocker gasket and injector o rings and copper washers. Not sure if all are necessary.
Was wondering about the maf sensor as if I unplug it there is no difference in engine tonr at idle or revving it at standstill.

You can run without maf sensor on them but ecu will be open loop so won't 'learn' fuelling but will run on a preset map, so it won't change note or drive noticably differently. I'd be very surprised if it's not injector loom. From memory you don't have any need to pull the injectors, so not sure why a kit comes with injector seals, just take the rocker cover off to get to it

HI,had a Defender TD5 many years ago misfiring.Took to a land Rover garage ,plugged in maf sensor faulty, will order one in and give you a ring, few days later called and said it needed a complete loom to the ECU at a cost of over £800 fitted.Paid for the plug in and maf sensor plus half an hour labour and took it home.Fitted a new injector wiring loom but still misfiring.Took it to a back street Land Rover garage who swapped a faulty injector for a working second hand one while i was there.Cost ,injector £100,this is years ago when they were scarce,and£50 to plug in to tell the ecu it had a different injector and inclusive of fitting cost. The moral of the story is be careful where you get the repair done.

Yes, I’ll second the ‘be careful’ warning.
My friend has now retired and stepped away from working on LR’s.
The next generation are less experienced and the need to shop around is important.
