As above, or is it too risky to
windrow combinable peas before ready for combining(while they are standing).
As in a wet year one ends up with a swath of mushy peas!!!

Can remember in my youth having to fork combinable peas onto a tripod where they where left to dry and then forking them into the combine. Must admit always used to get a very clean dry sample with zero losses as tripod erected on a wagon sheet and sweepings all went through the combine. Massey 780 at the time.

Yes ive always wanted to, there are no swathers around here though, not that i know of anyway that could cut it for us. Small acerage wouldnt warrant buying one either or a draper header to pick them up .
Otherwise i would havd a go.

Where you based? We will try it next year. Have the swather.

I think it would need a swather that leaves a wide swath, so that when swath gets wet the swath would hopefully dry quicker than a narrow dense one, which could be a real
problem in a wet season.
I wonder if their is a swather made as above in North America or other country?

Slightly off topic. I have seen an interesting article on the "Agricology" website about growing Barley and Peas together. The foreign video mentioned about growing barley and peas together is worth a watch,is there way to translate the video to English.

I have grown Barley and Beans which worked out good, i tried Oats and Peas but the Oats dominated the Peas too much and shaded them out. Also Peas and Spring oilseed rape......which helped keep the peas off the ground. I have swathed Winter Beans......just because the swather was parked up here for a while and we had big losses at swathing and also high losses when picking up the swath.

Was that for combining or silage?

The German video mentioned in the appendix of the article on Growing Peas with Compainion Crops, shows the Peas/Barley mix being combined, and further on in the video being separated ( cleaner or gravity separator??), also the guy shows a sample of the separated peas and barley. If only I spoke German to learn more from the video :scratchhead::scratchhead:
