Do folk still do this, we always did at Xmas?

When the other half and I got together we moved into a tied cottage a couple of days before Christmas, hardly any furniture, mattress on the floor, boxes to sit on etc. I went into the woods and chopped the top out of a tree, put it in calf bucket, she put a couple of strands of tinsel and we had a couple of baubels. Couple of days in the warm ie Christmas morning we came downstairs and with the warmth and the cat using the soil in the bucket as a litter tray the poor thing gave a shake and made itself naked, just a pile of needles on the floor! We have fond memories of our first Christmas with Sticky :)

Yes go to the newish forestery plantation with a saw and either cut a young one down or the top of an old one, remember going with dad in the 80s, mum always saying make sure it's not to big, always to big when in living room. Those trees are 25ft tall now, those were the Xmas days.

Remember doing that with father back in the 80’s. my job was to rub the stump with a bit of mud so as it wasn’t so obviously newly cut down.
Eventually they all did get too big although I do remember him acquiring a larger one by these means for the local church one year🤫

Christmas tree procurement is one of my favourite nocturnal winter sports.

Not a bad effort this year.:lurking:
