do we need the red tractor scheme

Red Tractor is a disaster for British Farming as it is a really meaningless pee poor scheme. It basically states that the holder is capable of chewing gum and walking and little else. We have to be members to sell grain but I resisted until I had no option.
It has done the dairy people no good and does the beef and sheep no good either. For livestock schemes such as pasture fed or even organic have a meaning but RT is not even worth putting it on the label.
The problem is it is a minimum scheme that means the basic legal requirements are being met and bugger all else. What does it mean to the consumer? Sweet fanny Adams in reality it has no provenance such as free range or locally produced so why waste time and money on it? Only to keep some organ donors in cushy jobs at our expense.

I agree with most of your sentiments but when WLA was being discussed the RT quango said that it was because the public thought RT was WLA. Maybe leading questions where involved but it does show that the public percieve rt produce to be of some sort of higher standard. That can't do us any harm surely?

I would venture to suggest that the Great British public only think (if at all) that the RT is a statement of origin and nothing else.

The RT quango actually said the consumers thought RT was WLA, they first tried to make out the consumer was the shopper but after being pulled up on it at the now in-famous meeting at Cullompton they had to admit that the group they referred to as consumers wasn't actually shoppers but the supermarkets!!....

Having witnessed our neighbour (large scale, rented ground) lead chicken litter to a field next to us and backload grain straight off the combine I began to wonder why I bothered cleaning and sanitising my trailers pre harvest. They will no doubt be in the same scheme as me but I guess I'm the daft one for adhering to it. I have argued the toss with a merchant about accepting non assured grain and he flat out told me they would not entertain trying to move it due to the homes they sell into requiring it. I remember we were promised that assured grain would be worth a premium above non assured when schemes were proposed. It never materialised.

Same as the milk. We were made to jump thro fire hoops and put stupid bits of paper in files and where did that get me? 12.2ppl from First Milk Its all a con why bother. Everything seems to be on the floor so Farm Assurance has not worked, in our favour anyway.

surveys can be made to say whatever you want them to, one not long ago thought we would have a labour government right now !

I expect RT or the NFUsless paid for this survey yes ?
