Do you lock your doors at night

The real concern for all those saying personal harm will come to those that enter, is that some of these individuals are not from the UK / Ireland, they come from places that have seen so much, that their moral radar is so far adrift from ours.

You then need to decide if you wish to take that playing field - as they will not even bat an eyelid...

Always lock the doors at night or if we go out, mother (aged 70) also locks the doors if she's on her own. Okay so it won't stop a determined thief, but it slows them down. Having had the house broken into before tends to focus your mind on security. I've also had several attempted break-ins on the farm where they've been disturbed whilst trying to get in so slowing them down does do some good.

best bit of advice from my dear departed dad - don't flash your cash!

However, we gave me this advice before the crack heads emerged. Sadly a CH will only want to grab anything that fits in the pocket to sell on for the odd £10 note will suffice so a quick swizz through the drawers and search through the bedroom for the odd piece of jewellery will be sufficient just to get the fix.

Opportunists are the ones to look out for the people that can knock on the door in the day and slowly walk in. Im always on edge thinking one day there will be someone in my house when I walk back in after being on the farm. Dogs I think are the best for just keeping the snoopers out. CCTV def a deterrent.

They can have my 10 yr old car. Not sure if a well worn estate is a bank job's get away car. Luckily I don't think the boss will every buy me that flash hairdressers Merc.

What happened on June 26th?

As we live out in the sticks we’ve never locked the door except when going away.
Anyway at 2:20 in the morning my wife heard someone setting off our creaky floorboards (old farmhouse)on the landing outside our bedroom. At first she thought it was one of our girls. She then saw this tall silhouette looking down on me and the mrs whilst we were in bed. I was fast asleep. She rubbed her eyes thinking she was dreaming, then he was gone. She woke me up by whispering to me saying “someone’s outside our bedroom”. I listened and heard someone slowly going down the stairs.
I immediately got up out of bed, went outside our bedroom, turned on the landing light and to my horror saw this tall ginger haired man going down the last couple of steps. I then took off like a greyhound being released. (normally I’m like a 90 year old going down the stairs after sleeping but it’s amazing what adrenaline does to you.) He also took off, probably because of my shouting and swearing, and ran out through the front door and slammed it shut to slow me down and waste valuable seconds. I opened the door, my car was parked just outside and I decided to give chase in the car, reversed up the yard so to drive up our lane. When pointing towards our lane I could see a little red mazda and a man sitting in the driver side. I immediately drove my car within inches to the back of the Mazda, jumped out and clenched my fist ready to whack him, went up to him and saw that he was trying to start his car. I reached in to snatch the keys but after struggling with him realised it was keyless start. I then opened his door pulled him out and slammed him back against the car, all this was included with me swearing like a scene out of the Sweeney. He managed to move around me and pulled and I lost my grip and he was gone, ran up our drive like a Olympic sprinter. It was hard for me to keep hold of him as I didn’t have anything on my feet thus no grip. I then ran in the house got my phone, torch and rigger boots and ran out to his car and rang the cops. After around 15 minutes I could see him walking around the bend and towards me and his car. He was talk to himself and swearing as if he was having a argument with himself. I was still on the phone to the woman from the police call centre, she told me to get inside quick and to lock the door. I said no way so I blinded him with the torch and shouted f***ing stay there and don’t move a f***ing inch. He was around 5 meters from me, I said get down on the floor, he knelt and then the blue lights came. Was I glad to see the police. 3 squad cars and then a van. I pointed at the intruder to the police and he was handcuffed. All of this was seen by my wife and daughters through upstairs window. Then my wife came out and shouted to me to put some clothes on as there was three policewoman there, I was stark bollock naked apart from my rigger boots. It was a very warm night.
The following morning I had a whole herd TB test. I was starving all day and was told that it was to do with the large release of adrenaline that night. Luckily we passed the TB.
The man was sentenced two days ago. He had been stalking my daughter for the last three years. The last eighteen months my daughter thought he had disappeared from her life but obviously he’d been working undercover.
So remember to lock your doors, you never know!

That's scary. You did a good job keeping him there for the police.
