Have cows run in 1 group but with 2 different sheds/bedding types.

For example, a shed on mats and sawdust and an adjacent shed on sand.

My chap who thinks he is an oracle on all things cows says I'm asking for trouble.

Used to have low yielders in a shed with 2 rows of cubicles, one old type and one new type both with mats and predictably cows always crammed in the new cubicles. Not the same as 2 bedding types I know but if one is more comfortable (sand?) theyll probably all try and get in those

We ran for quite a few years with half deep bedded on sand, half sawdust and mats, all one group no issues some cows preferred sand, others matts.

All matts now but that's due to slurry management.

Always remember when mattresses first came on the seen. Boss at the time put in half a shed of pasture mats. Big mistake cows qued up for them had stood on teats. Nearly took them out, but did end up doing whole shed.
Give it ago but have a plan B I'd say.

Earth bed with straw,mats with sawdust,here cows seem to enjoy the straw bedding not cheap this year though.

Museum of mats/matresses in one group here, cows spread pretty evenly through without issue

We only have 1 group of cows, and that have 2 sheds, 1 is on mats 1 shed other was chalk , never had any problems, but chalk was concreted out 5 year ago as it was getting dug out to much.

2nd query, 1 shed is sand, and decide the other shed is a slatted tank with matts, will they prefer/over crowd the sand shed as concrete will be better to walk on than slats?

Just the cow ones, same width, but moved brisket board back and dropped the shoulder rail below instead of above
