All that land was drained 20 years ago . It improved but not 100 % . Since found out water is 6 ft under the drains . Running in red shale and bursting up when it hits a wall of clay . So as advised by some clever chap on here . Cant rember his name . I went deep and found the water . Same on most of the fields here drained big fields just by putting a very deep drain at the top . It's a lot of digging mind
It was me who told you to go deep. I learned it from the man who does our draining. It is a lot of digging but it's the only way to do it. Plenty of people only get rid of the surface water, but it's the rising water that does the damage.

Think of you when I'm digging . Cant believe the water I have found . First thing I do is dig test holes as deep as I can go , when they fill with water I know I'm on it . All thanks to you

No surprise that it was deep. It was deeper than the level of the drain so a sump was dug at the end of the drain and filled with stone.

What is the minimum fall for a field drain? Got a really flat bit to get through. Using 6" twin wall.

I could phone you but cant be hooped tonight!
You can get away with very little fall but i remember my drainage man telling me it was best to use the right size of pipe for the amount of water. His advice was to use a pipe close to capacity to keep it from silting up.
Although now that i think about it that really dosnt matter with twin wall due to it be smooth in the inside, it should keep everything moving and easy to clean.

Was laid with 1 in 300 run for the first 200m to get through the low spot. Low area has already had 100s of tonnes of soil tipped in it and ground level raised by approx 40cm. Last bit was 1 in 120 I think. 150mm twin wall.

Got laterals to go in now but they have more run and will be 100mm coil.

Laser helped a lot after I got it set running the right way?. Dad still had spirit level and straight edge out too.

How do you connect the 100mm coil to the 150mm twinwall?

Can anyone tell me how.........when you dig out an old stone drain, put a pipe in and backfill with clean stone and then put what you dig out back over the top......you are left with such an indent the length of the drain after it has settled then year after?
