Drilling spring barley - An idiots Guide

Given the loss of all the archived material on the old BFF I need reassurance that I am going down the right path! I am intending to let the soil warm up to above 8c and then spray off with round up and drill the next day. I was also intending to broadcast N fertiliser on the day of drilling and then drill through it. Given that my drill creates some disturbance, I thought that this would give some minor incorporation of the fert. I am a little nervous now about the fert. A couple of people have suggested that I should be putting some in with the seed, Ammonia Sulphate was recomended, but I didnt ask at the time if that was instead of the planned broad cast or in association with it or whether it was just a case of delaying the first N application. I am concerned about rusting the drill by putting fert in with the seed so would rather do my initial broadcast plan, but does the forum think this is the best way to go? All thoughts appreciated.

I'm having similar thoughts/worries here, have only dd'ed beans in the spring before. There's a bit of spring oats and barley to go in this year. My plan is to use 20 kg/ha of DAP in with the seed, plus topdressing N at the time of sowing.

I'm thinking some readily available P by the seed will make the biggest difference?

Is there protective coating that could be sprayed inside the hopper before drilling?

I'm not sure if I could spray something in the hopper. The other alternative that I was considering was maybe fibrophos in with the seed. Would that phos be available enough?

Not ultra low in P but two field are coming out of 18 months in a herbal ley and want to give the barley the best chance. Will spreading fert and then drilling through it be good enough do you think?
