Bourgault are a little more refined and well thought out but personally I’ll never go away from metcalfe on mineWhich points are users finding best on Horsch Sprinter, Dutch Openers or Bourgault?
Minimal ground disturbance for DD. If I was still cultivating though I’d have something with a wingWhat is it about the Metcalfe that you particularly preffer? i’m looking at the 4 inch for cereals, 19 mm for OSR.
Have you looked at the winged Metcalf point, dose a fantastic job and still moves very little dirt.Minimal ground disturbance for DD. If I was still cultivating though I’d have something with a wingView attachment 1100488
Yeah…it’s not where I’m trying to get to really. In my mind disturbance has got to be kept to a minimum (ie disc) but on my medium land these can smear or not penetrate adequately so the thin metcalfe gives me the best of both worlds.Have you looked at the winged Metcalf point, dose a fantastic job and still moves very little dirt.
I’ve not had that issue with 5” Dutch open back coulters.I’ve recently purchased a sprinter. It’s currently on Dutch openers but I’m finding when the soils wet we’re getting lots of blocked coulters. Very annoying! Are the bourgault any better?
Stuart - Tech Manager at Bourgault Uk would be only too happy to have a chat about your problems.I’ve both the 3 1/2 inch and the 1 inch. The 31/2 inch ones seem to be squeezing wet soil into them. They’re brand new coulters which seems strange. I’ve been running the fan high but still seems to plug the coulters. Obviously the conditions have been far from perfect.
Yep that’s what I do. I’d go for the longest point option so you can keep the carrier out of the ground.Just acquired a Sprinter with 5 inch dutch fitted, what would be the best option for drilling beans? I was thinking maybe Metcalfes?
Afraid not@Tompkins are you at Tillage Live ?
28cm - 10cm (4”) would be circa 18cm between rows. If it’s a 4” paired row it may have a gap down the middle of the coulter also so it would appear that there was a wide gap, narrow gap, wide gap and so on across the widthEvening
I have been tinkering with my old co4 drilling wheat and beans direct on 1in Burgault Vos points which equates to a 25cm row spacing. This is fine as my avatar is 25cm spacing as well. I can drill between the rows on second wheats etc. the Vos points are excellent as well.
I have decided to change the co4 for a 6m sprinter for a number of reasons. However, the leg spacing on a post 2016 machines is 28cm. This bring into question the suitability of drilling wheat on a 1 inch point. I spoke to Burgault and they suggested a 4 inch paired row. I would still go direct. Does anyone know what spacing this would this give me? Anyone doing something similar?
It’s a shame because I like the 1 inch point form a soil movement prospective.
The 4 inch paired rows will give you the 3 inch spread. If it’s wet conditions in go with an open back opener. Case Concord were highly rated at seeding into near snot. In the red river valley our soil are unbelievably sticky and their design was way ahead of bougaultEvening

What is the spacing on your spinter? Is it on 25cm or 28cm?Minimal ground disturbance for DD. If I was still cultivating though I’d have something with a wingView attachment 1100488
