Sat here in the warm wet humid conditions with little or no sun on the horizon and developing a melancholy mood re our harvest prospects have found a little cheer in opening the bill for the late ear wash application, might turn out to be money well spent and at the time was against putting it on

If we are get stuck in this current weather pattern for too long our nice bold, ear washed grain could end of on the floor... might not have been such a good investment then! But it is only the 1st of Aug and the monthly outlook suggests we might get at least a few dry week towards the end of the month, crossing fingers. The 14 day looks crap

He never said he didn’t know how much it was costing him, it just made him glad he had applied it - money well spent.
People often seem to read things on here and come up with an arse about face view.
Read it again, he said opening the bill for it has cheered him up.

You can’t actually tell for sure whether or not he knew how much it would cost before he opened the bill from the information in opening post.
There is always the chance he knew at the beginning of June, but forgot what the total would come to until he was reminded by opening the bill.

This. I've got a good idea what Proline and teb are going to cost but until the invoice comes from the buying group I don't really know. Usually within 5% of budget & often a nice surprise when there's a good deal on.

Indeed, opening the bill cheered him up. But why did it cheer him up? Maybe because it was printed on lavender coloured paper? That is as much as one can ascertain from that phrase in the OP.

Suggest you read the OP again, insert more punctuation, and be less presumptive in your interpretation of the English.

From my perspective, I cannot see at any point does the Opening Poster make any specific reference to the actual cost of the treatment. It is you in post #5 that refers to a price or monetary value, and may I say makes presumptions as to the posters prior knowledge of the costs likely to be in the invoice.

The OP says that with hindsight, given the subsequent weather, the application of an ear wash fungicide has cheered him up, from a melancholy state.

All fascinating and the fun of the forum. Look forward to someone correcting me!

no correction spot on, what I was saying was I questioned the need at the time of recommendation and application , so far money (how much was not the point) well spent. My spirits even though not yet harvested a thing remain high and our crops are golden, cheers all

Now we have got that sorted out I cannot help feeling that fungicides will have paid for themselves on wheat quite handsomely this year when the trial and unsprayed trameline results are analyzed. Most of the rain here came after spraying decisions were made. I don’t really know what conclusions to draw, but my variety choices are moving to more disease resistance.

We went very cheap and t1 and t2 then actually ramped it up at t3 and put some strob in with epoxi which in hindsight was a great idea. All resistant varieties here.
