talking to a few farmer pals and some are saying they are going later with n this year as crops ww/bar are forward and too many tillers whats your views on first n rate and timing if it ever dries up

Wheat too thick. Too forward. Land too wet. Some wants Atlantis and I would rather have that on before I do anything much else.
Barley thick. But not too thick. Give it a month.

Weather will rule workload as always. Might only dry up early March, in which case it will be barley first, then OSR, then maybe a touch on the thinner late wheats.

I always like to have a little N on just before Atlantis- always thought that it helped the wheat get over any checking and make sure the BG was growing and taking up chemical. What is your thinking?

If the weather is right, then Atlantis is what I want on first. Will just play it by ear. Atlantis'ed crops will get a lighter first PGR as well. N application will depend on tiller numbers - so will keep an eye on those. Crops look very well tillered, so it might be :

1) Atlantis,
2) PGR, nutrient spray, fungicide.
3) Big dose of N.

Will depend on wheat GS when the ground will travel. I reckon it wont be dry before early March, so I will send out the buggy to spray the Atlantis while the tractor gets spreading on the rape and barley.

Might not have a choice now we are in the cycle of 2 drying days then 1/3 inch+ of rain. As usual, just get stuff done when it dries up 'cos if you wait for the perfect day it wont come, or you will have got 6 days work to do in 24 hours.

Weather will dictate timings here, rape from middle of month, if things have dried up by then !! Then WB, WW2 then WW1, could be mid March by then.
WB starting to yellow a bit now, as everything else is staying very green.
Has anyone got any smn results ?
I had some taken last week, going to be low no doubt.

imho low sns this year is certain so once it warms up crops will need some n
no doubt the maxi till early drilled crops will have plenty of plants so can afford to loose some but normal planted crops will need n at normal timing whatever that is in the 80s it was end of jan now end of march
with the need for thick competitive crops for weed control earlier n and growth regulater may be more preferable than later n

Don't panic, 50% wants to go on the flag leaf, at the end if the day it's too wet wait till it will travel even if its the middle of march, yo want yield not just lots of green leaf full of disease.

Hybrid barley will get 60 - 80 kg N, osr will get 60 - 90 kg N & wheat will get 40 kg N as soon as I can travel. Thinnest & driest crops first.
