Ecoli outbreak

Will they say if these salad leaves were from vertical farming?
Why would vertical farming have anything to do with it?
If anything they would be less likely to be contaminated as they wouldn't be growing in soil where manure was spread.
Most likely source is the water used to wash the leaves not being clean enough, nothing new. By that I mean it has happened before and will likely happen again, very difficult to guard against it 100%.

Shigella Sonnei (dysentery) outbreak in the Chew Valley 30 years ago traced to iceberg lettuce grown with sewage contaminated irrigation in Spain. Outbreak at the same time in Southampton. Turned out half a load each had gone through the wholesale markets in Southampton and Bristol.
Iceberg was particularly attractive for pubs because it was chopped straight out of the wrapper. Not washed,

I was listening to Farming Today last week which had a feature from such a vertical farm and I was struck as to highly likely such an occurrence was likely to happen. Vertical farms are being so promoted that I rather suspect that any bad news will be avoided and discarded as much as possible.
I believe trying to avoid contamination in a sterile environment is actually more problematic than in a field.

People who prepare food do need to be super careful. There is no mistaking E. Coli if you get it. I had the nasty 0157 type where people from the council test your kitchen and fridge etc. and all the places you ate at recently. I got to a point of thinking dying would be ok. Then I recovered quickly and back to normal. It has taught me to be very careful when eating out.
