May not be correct place in here, but you may know...
Daughter just been in and is having a bit of a time with her domestic supply.
House is 2 up 2 down semi, cooking with electric and hot water, heating also, but only using one radiator at low level in lounge to keep damp at bay.
When she is not at home some days usage is logging £12, she was home and baking couple of days over Christmas and usage £6 day!!
Can these meters be wrong, can she ask for a check to be put on the supply?
Seems ridiculous to me.
Any advice please.

Wouldnt touch a smart meter ,,tell her to get onto EDF and get it swapped to a standard meter and then send the readings in online every month on the same date ,works for me .
Shell energy keep sending me emails saying ,your meter is past its service life and it must be replaced with a smart meter ,,they can f---off

I would not have one either. But do consumers have the right to have an ordinary meter re-installed if a smart one is fitted already? Something tells me that once you have a smart meter already, you are fecked.

Heard no end of horror stories of false recording and not even transmitting the information ,,if its recording more units used than what you know from previous bills on old style meter then I would think you have every right to get it removed

I’ve just renewed my edf contract but they say now I need to have smart meter fitted I said no don’t want one will just carry on sending monthly readings in, they replied I have to have it or they can’t do new contract . I now have contract but no new smart meter although have had email about arranging the date . I’m just going to ignore it or perhaps I should charge them a weekly fee to have this device in my house ?

Smart Meters are fabulous. You can log on to your domestic account and you can see every half hour reading and how much you are using and when.

Typical day charging batteries on 7p electric at night.

I got told I had to have one with ovo/SSE. I told the philippino cow on the phone it was a waste of time and money because there's no mobile signal here, she said it doesn't matter, the readings are sent "on our network". Bloke came and fitted it,no mobile signal, doesn't work. Read it yesterday and it's clocking double the units that the old one was. Phoning them tomorrow

Yep, SSE, Just Barstewards, my gas is on a 'smart meter' & uses a colossal amount compared to my previous anologue meter even before the prices went nuts this year, they keep sending me letters & calling about upgrading my electric to the same but have been told that is never going to happen..................I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

I can easily see where my money is going. Mostly on background use all day long when the power is 4 times the price.

I was contacted by edf saying I had to haveca smart meter to continue with my contract which is 16.8p a unit until jan 2025, I didnt have the time to argue so arranged a time, bloke turns up and says oh its three phase can do that, that was oct not heard anything since.
If anyone thinks their meter is faulty just fit a second one to check, they are cheap, any decent sparkle can fit them with seals so they cant claim you are bypassing

A neighbour was telling me that energy companies aren't bothered about how successful the smart meter install is, just want box ticked to say it's fitted to meet government targets!

Seems to be a good few smart meters locally that have never worked.
And energy suppliers not least bit interested in getting them going. Just send folk out to read the meter

You can buy check meters from £20 upwards. An hour for sparkie to fit at max.. they are actually very simple to fit your self but not sure of the rules about doing so.
All meters are capable of misreading of course we rarely hear of people complain of them under the mark! ;)
