Edgar vs Solstice pics 24/06/13

Left Edgar
Middle Solstice

Both been treated identically except Edgar had Atlantis herbicide as its a seed crop

Right Solstice completely untreated. No fert, no herbs, no fungicides, no trace elements, no slug pellets - nothing since the drill left the field.

I'm just wondering whether to drop Solstice and go Edgar everywhere next year as I was looking for a replacement for solstice anyway ....... Got a tonne of crusoe coming to grow on as well so in 2014 autumn I will plant half Edgar and half Crusoe - well thats the plan anyway.

whilst the Edgar has longer ears I think the number of grains looks quite similar ? I would reserve judgment as to which is best until you get a combine in the field

Different varieties have different best years as well, I wouldn't base a decision on one (odd) season and as a milling wheat grower certainly wouldn't have all my eggs in one quality basket either ??
