EID Tags

New to keeping sheep. Bought some orphan lambs earlier this year straight from farm of birth, now looking to upgrade ewe lambs from slaughter tags to full EID sets but not sure what to write on the paperwork? Got the red replacements but have no way of scanning old tags for individual numbers... any ideas?

Ask the person you bought them off if they recorded the numbers in their records. If not when you sell the males you will get to know what numbers they were at slaughter. Just put something in the same range in you’re record book when you record the re-tagging. They can’t check individual sheep movements.....yet

Just record the flock number and that they are EID slaughter tags. That satisfies any traceability requirements and it would be a very unreasonable inspector who made any objection at any future inspection.

And if it will help you sleep at night, keep the old tags in a specimen jar to be used as evidence in your defence if and when you appear before the supreme court.
