Electric fencing

Is Hotline electric fencing wire far superior than Gallagher electric fencing wire.
I bought a roll of Gallagher 9 strand and put it on a hotline fencer and tested it and only lights two lights on the tester. Changing fencer and batteries makes no difference so got to be a difference

I'd doubt it, particularly if both are new.
Polywire isn't a very reliable conductor as it ages due ti the the thin wires burning out easliy, particularly at joints and connections.

It's also important to slowly run the tested along the wire when testing a line that is mostly made up of plastic.

Polywire is fine for a battery fence but a decent mains fence will burn it out in no time especially if it's close to the energiser. Semi permanent fences are best done with steel wire. Obviously fences that are wound in and out regularly have to be poly wire, the thicker the better. I've got some premium stuff here that is very thick but it's a sh!t to clip on to the green plastic posts, it'd work well on pig tail posts but being so thick it will fill a reel quite quickly- probably 200/250m compared to 500m.

With the thick wire, I ran an angle grinder through the slot on the fence posts to take the wire. It makes it easy to slot the wire in.

Had a look and the hotline wire is thicker so I suppose that's why there is more current with it
