Electric rat traps

Has anyone had much experience of these or similar please? Pros/cons?

Hopefully the main problem will be resetting them ?

Rats are very intelligent though, so not sure how long before they learn not to go in

If you get some and they work, please come back and update, as I need something asap.

Peanut butter is very attractive to them. Like any anti rat strategies you have to keep ringing the changes. I use Racumin foam occasionally, excellent results with the benefit they come outside to die so you can see the problem.
Have seen various electric traps so could be another option. Let us know how you get on.

For a minute there I was thinking that someone had invented electric rats; as if the normal ones aren't bad enough

They work well with mice (so the theory works) but yet to get a rat with them. Presumably big rats need a big charge and although the rat version is bigger it's maybe difficult to get enough, especially on battery power (ours take 6 x C batteries).
Battery option useful for remote locations but also gets through them quick, better if you can run off mains. We haven't given up on them but as said don't use them solely, try other methods in rotation.

We had one in our tack / feed room, they work but you have to remove the rat asap, or the trap is no use until you do. I will now use these as they can kill more before you can return to clear out the trap, so more effective if you have a lot of rats, but to be fair - the best tool we had was ferral cats we got for the farm:

Had similar a few years ago called a "rat zapper". Expensive on batteries and not very good.
Apologies to those that had heard me say this dozen times before, but you can't beat a fenn trap.

I use a dropflap trap that drops the mouse into a bucket of water/antfreeze and resets

I was looking at this on Farm Marketplace last week and wondering if it was worth a try? It uses CO2 to kill them, with all the legislation and assurance complications around poison these days I wonder if its just a simpler solution

I have a similar one, I converted it to mains power as batteries were expensive, it took time to catch its first mouse but once one had died in it I didnt need to bait. One problem is cleaning the insulated section, as humidity and dirt cause a short circuit and "trip" it out. They are useful where there is a mountain of wheat and the only way to catch mice (never got a rat) is putting it where they run.

Basically yes.

Better video showing it works without having to move others out the way as there is no smell but food, because you cannot be there every hour, so remain effective until you can get back round.

Thanks for the replies to this, sorry I'm a bit late getting back to you but our internet has been playing up. The A24 captive bolt style trap that @Ukjay posted about looks interesting, many others on here tried these?
