Any pictures of this as it sounds the ideal solution. Always have the tractor going so hydraulic power available.
The motor is an Adan 300 and is too big for the oil supply from my little digger,it cranks over too slowly I have been looking for a 100 or 150 as that would have enough guts but go a lot faster.
If the back end of yours is open like the one in the video you would have to rig up a bracket for holding the motor, I have just got a couple of bits of small angle bolted onto mine.

ill throw this out here and ye can dissect it any way ye want.

a few years ago i was at a place where there was a lad in working with a towed welding set and not a small one either,
he had fitted a clutch off an air conditioning unit onto the end of a starter motor and run a belt to a pulley on the crank, i only clicked there was something afoot when he started the engine while holding the electrode holder 30' from the set, curiosity got the better of me and i went for a looksee, i asked him how he did that and thats the setup he showed me.
like a starter switch she engaged the air con clutch with the starter at starting and when released it just free wheeled while the engine was running.
he also had a windscreen motor mounted to the amp handle so he could vary the amps from a switch on the holder without getting up to do it, he was a smart cookie imo.

now for all i know the donkey was easily started and quite possibly a lot easier than a dumper engine but i thought it was an ingenious solution all the same.

Dont quite understand. Did it use the electrode wires to start the starter motor or did it have an additional 2 wires attached to the electrode wires.

Additional 12Volt wires ...............

The air conditioning pulley on the starter motor is genius.
Hopefully @renewablejohn has a spare Vee pulley on the engine?

Have plenty of room on the shaft to fit a pulley. Not to keen on electrics as its the sort of kit I use so infrequently that whenever I come to use it the battery will be flat. Now combine it with a hydraulic motor that would be ideal. So where is the best place for said air conditioning clutch.

Local breaker will have an old air con pump that has dried out (no good) and the pulley will be ideal for you.
Unless you use an Anderson connector (jump leads) form the tractor to work the clutch, just like using the hydraulic pipes?
You'll find the connectors on electric forklifts or E-Bay ................

How to remove the pulley click
If you watch the video out in U-Tube (bottom right corner button) there are more tear downs of air con pumps.

To be honest it might be easier to tighten the belt to engage the drive as first mentioned, but maybe not?

Edit:
No sorry daydreaming, we're using a starter motor now, thought we were using an electric pulley on the little engine

I always fancied fitting a hydraulic starter motor somehow then using a couple of ball valves and an accumulator and charging it up by teeing it off the dumper down function, then it would be charged up ready, jump in the seat and twist the ballvalve and away you go.

Just be careful mounting the motor like that as most will be turning the wrong way.
Talk about a head scratcher ................

Mursal is on the money there.

he had slave wires running to the holder along the welding cable and it all in a sheath, had a very neat little box on it with the start button and a momentary switch for adjusting the amps, it had sides and a little hood on it so as not to get accidentally switched or damaged.

Could it be you are also pushing hyd oil through the Orbitral steering mechanism as well ?
I know on mine that as soon as the Orbitrol was disconnected the engine would fly over by hand no bother at all . With the Orbitrol connected it was difficult to turn over , I could still start it but it was a real pig to get going .
If that is correct , could you plumb a T return to tank to bypass the Orbitrol ?

Power steering whats that this is a real mans dumper shame I am getting to old to use it. Power steering would be next on the mods to make life easier in old age at the moment the only hydraulics is the tip ram.
