Electricity tariffs/Prices

The cap is indeed 34p . Prices are finally up on govt site . But sadly no mention of 17p discount for people who are already fixed for business. Only a six month fix for those on variable though so still a roll of the dice needed . Pretty difficult to predict what’s going to be on offer in 6 months time .
Is 34p for a business contract or household?

Breathing space for 6 months if you are a business on variable . I guess govt. are hoping that in 6 months time the offers will look better than they do now and they will have had another 6 months to see and predict how many businesses have gone /will go down the pan due to the increased rates . Maybe they can pay more attention to that now they are not squabbling about parties and leadership.

Business doesn‘t look like it’s going to have the same “ have your cake and eat it “ deal if your fixed that domestic is going to get . I guess it may vary from company to company .

I’m with Octopus and they’ve made a partial statement but the full details are to follow . My deal was made just over 3 weeks ago : £1.50 a day standing 51.01 p day , 34.8 p night for 3 years . So pretty unfavourable against the new cap for 6 months but then what ? Even if I can terminate the contract without paying a fortune in penalties . I need a better crystal ball …….

“Will there be energy support for businesses?Businesses, and other non-domestic energy users such as charities and public sector organisations like schools, will also benefit from reduced energy costs, with costs for those on variable tariffs capped at the same price per unit - or kilowatt hour (kWh) - as households. That's an average 34p per kWh for electricity and 10.3p per kWh for gas. Unlike households, this will only be in place for six months.

The government will assess whether certain industries, such as hospitality, should be offered more support - Truss promised that this decision will be confirmed within three months. “

This was from “Which“ so they are interpreting the govts. Statement to mean that “business support like consumer support “ means same rates but I agree the wording of the govt. statement is not crystal clear .

What tech people using to monitor the electric consumption throughout the day? I.e off the shelf energy monitor-like a smart meter supplied by your energy Co.

Emporia Vue smart energy system works well ( Amazon) . About £130 for main feed and 8 circuits . I think an extra 8 circuits is another 40-50 . The clamps take up a bit of room in the box but it works well and you can really pin down exactly where your energy is being used . I also bought Kasa smart plugs for high use sockets , dishwasher , dryer , washing machine etc.

Announcement today apparently. BBC are quoting a cap of 21.1p / unit for electricity which if true is a lot better than expected.
Unless it includes existing contracts its hardly fair on anyone that tried to put a cap on their costs. But I guess thats just how life works.

So capped at 21.1p for anyone who renewed after 1st April, but I strongly suspect renewals before that were way above that anyway.Has to be a cutoff somewhere o suppose but hardly seems fair.

That's the wholesale price so there will still be a margin on top of that. Be interesting to now see how much these energy retailers are making out of us.
