Electricity tariffs/Prices

I've been told that BG and Scottish Power pay the best for on farm generated power. Just in the process of installing some solar panels so I'll need to find the company paying the most but charging the least.

Contract doesn’t renew till March but been quoted 25pp day standing charge and 29.1p unit from EDF to sign up now. Do I take their hand off or hold off? Currently 195pp day (yes that’s right) and 57pp unit from thieving Scottish Power on one year deal , was 33p and 17p on previous deal with SP but at time of renewing couldn’t get any firm to take on new customer
I would take it

Are you on a HH meter like me? I was quoted £7.50/day for new contact I was on £1.00 last year. £2700+ just for the sc, it's just ridiculous. Farmer down the road with more cows with a normal meter is on 0.50.
We’re on a HH meter. Used to pay 72p/day on 3 yr Opus contract. When we came to renew in March 23 we were being quoted SCs of between £15 and £25 per day. No one could tell me WTF had happened or why, they all just shrugged. So we drifted onto the variable out of contract rate that was £8.44/day. No idea why it’s actually cheaper than a fixed deal but it’s really starting to hurt. We don’t consume much leccy these days compared to when we had cows.

Now we’re into winter I’m going to have to get stuck in to Ofgem/ENW to see what can be done. It’s fekking scandalous.

Hh. , half hourly, you can get billed different rates, during different half hour periods, eg more between 5 and 7 pm, less at other times particularly night.

I fix at a certain unit rate, npower then adjusts the bill dependant on HH usage.

Comes with a hefty standing charge.

Solar export can be paid HH also, so you potentially get less per kg at mid day when solar is plentiful.

A good reason to fit batteries save your noon solar production for use/export in early evening or night.

Daylight robbery, they probably see the usage and claw it back in the SC just because of the HH meter. Been wondering how much a generator would cost to hire and run.

Bg renewal letter for end Jan came today.
New quote included, - which in the past has been dearer than phone quotes but looking on this thread looks in the current range

Getting a bit keen with their standing charges
SC 976.82 p / day was 107.53p (3 years ago )
Day 25.47 p was 15.9
Night 18.73 p was 11.56

Rough calc an extra £12,000 a year

12 months prior the day rates were 40p+! You've got off lightly I would say! Up £12 grand is massive fair play

BG lite 42p SC and 30.5 per unit over 2 years. Scottish Power wanted 215p SC then when notified of switch came back with 141p. Annual use only 300 units.
However on day one just had my first hour typing to BG agent as they have the wrong address. It doesn't even exist. Nnan farm??
Their response was to change the address with Royal Mail as that was the address registered to the meter. The farm has been here for 200 years and SP has had the correct site address for 25 years.
Gave 0/10 on feedback so will be getting a call back next week

There is no justification for energy prices being 20+ pence a unit.

Did you miss the standing charge?

It’s an absolute scandal this standing charge situation.
Our standing charge increases to £30 a day with Drax out of contract, when we enquired why, it was because we were out of contract! WTAF!
Just had a bill through from Yu, they’ve slipped in a “ metering charge”, £50 a month. Scandalous.

I'm Treasurer for a tiny rural church, which is used about 14 times a year plus a few hours hoovering. We currently pay about £350 for electricity, which is enough of a struggle. E-on have just sent their pricing through for a 1 year contract renewal, which would be £1100. Main killer is £1/day standing charge. We will have to close the church if we can't get a better deal than that. Fortunately there is a church buying group so I will see what that can offer, as well as they can act as a broker and get me quotes from about 10 different companies.

The only other alternative is to go off grid and invest in a generator!
