Good man!

I expect most of us will survive in one way or another...
Seriously thinking of not bothering with any of it here, really have to tighten my belt (that will take some doing) work off farm a bit more and be a master of my own destiny.
If the markets respond il keep on with the beef job, if not il scale it back and look at glamping pods and holliday lets. What im not going to do is be red tractor or defras bitch

This is what happens when folks whisper in Defra's ear that there are good ways of farming and bad ways of farming.
Want to know where all the money is going to go ? To folks who keep their heads down on SFD threads.

I think its workable and will be a matter of us not really having a choice. Prices of commodities is artificially high at the moment but won't be here to stay. I was talking to a restauranteur last night who has 4 places dotted about. All higher end stuff and he's been busier than ever since everything opened. In fact the first week back was his best ever in his career of 25 years. His meat and fish deliveries have shot up as has the alcohol side of things. His suppliers are telling him its a blip and they expect things to clam down early next year. Things like £1 added to the price of a steak to him really adds up over 4 x 150 seat restaurants. I can't remember exactly what it was but a bottle of cocktail mixer which normally costs him £3 he can't get hold of from the trade so is having to buy it off Amazon of all places for £25 per bottle and he gets through 4 bottles per day across the 4 restaurants.

If you think the additional cost of a £1 per steak really adds up for hime you should see him laugh when he adds £2 to the menu price of steaks.

He's held his menu prices as they were prior to the last lockdown. He's still profitable but now making less per steak. in 2019 his total meat order for the year was £200,000.

Anyone looking at entering a grassland pilot ? Couple of questions:
- They want a diverse herb/ legume sward on a proportion of the ground. That's the sort of thing you would only consider establishing if you were committing to, say, a 10 year agreement. How does that fit into a 2 year pilot ?
- Likewise a soil management plan. When you read what they want this to contain it's a whole shed load of tests and reports. What level of detail will be expected for a pilot ? What will it prove over 2 years ?
