I think we diss the uk a bit too much, yes if you farm within the m25 it’s not exactly rural but loads of business opportunities, if you want stunning scenery and rural idyllic try the boarders, or Scotland or Wales, loads of opportunities and we have a real benefit, we have decent populations close by to sell our produce to, we have some of the most productive efficient methods and getting better, we also have good shooting fishing and many ski resorts and beach resorts less than 3 hours flight away also we have a decent pint and a good number of pubs.

If you want to be a pioneer farmer and start from scratch and build an empire, you either become a bit coin miner and make your fortune first or you go to some 3rd world country where opportunities of cheap land and growing markets are a plenty somewhere like Mongolia or Patagonia or Syria.

My daughter No 2, went to Canada recently. She was looking to make a life there. It wasn't for her so she's back. In all honesty unless you've (@davieh3350) a pile of money or are under 25 I'd think you've got a reasonable set-up right now. OK you're not the owner but if you were would that make a huge difference? I went aged 30, looked & decided that the grass wasn't greener. My brother on the other hand went at 20 & stayed.....He's now got a lifestyle pretty similar to mine so in the end there's not that much difference. He's part time in the sheep farming & looks after convict built structures which are interesting in their own right.
I'll add that its Oz not Canada.

Emigrating either to NZ, Australia or Canada is not for everyone and the move would not suit a lot of people, many, once trying it move back home, at least they have tried and found out for themselves.

I would struggle to have the lifestyle I have in New Zealand back in the UK. There are less people, the weathers better, the sea is 10 minutes from the back door, the lakes only an hour away, the kids can be snow skiing 3 hours drive from home, although it certainly is not the Alps.

There are of course down sides, we are 12,000 miles from some close family members, you cannot jump on a plane for a weekend in Europe, the nearest neighbouring countries are a 3 hour flight away.

It does depend on what suits the individual.

Sometimes having family 18,000 km away is a bonus!!!:D

I wish I owned my place.
I want to do the same but to go to Canada instead. Only thing is, if I go the farm here pretty much goes for good.

Decisions decisions :nailbiting::nailbiting:
Canada does have it's attractions:D , and from all the countries I've been to probably the only one I would like to live in other than NZ. The only draw back is the winters and cold temperatures :rolleyes:

Kids loved it but we really weren't prepared for it so borrowed stuff and luckily daughter fits some of my wife's ski stuff when she was a kid. Also had a trip back to pleasant point today to the taxidermist and took a different route from Geraldine to there. Reinforced the idea it's a good area.
If it was mid winter we would have gone skiing and been prepared.
