I was wondering what enamel paint people found best for spraying their classic tractors, I have used 2 pack before and I don't really have the compressor to work the mask and gun together.

Makes no difference enamel paint won't do your lung's any good either, the only paint i used many years ago was cellulose but if you drank milk after it would break it down, so would tactfully suggest you replace compressor that will be man enough for what you want, remember paint and tools can be replaced but your body parts can't well not at moment........................

Hi, There is quite a difference in RPE needed for 2 pack paint compared to synthetic enamel, I do wear a mask when using synthetic it's better than coughing up paint for a day or so:),
I can hardly justify a new compressor for what I do, I am interested in the type of paint people use i.e Tractol, vapormatic etc.

Thanks Fergie35, I have used Tractol and Teamac I found Teamac quicker to dry and easier to brush if I need to, I used 2 pack on my land rover and found it chips just the same as synthetic.
I was just wondering what makes of paint other people found the best.

I've been using some Kramp red paint to brush paint something recently , very impressed , it needed very little mixing as next to no separation in the tin, it covers very well, and also drys pretty quick overall its superb stuff, I'm assuming it would spay well enough as long as you can get suitable thinners for it.

Vap paint for the money is very good it gives very good finish with good covering power but it's brittle

Sparex paint is good It's softer once dry but it dosnt shine as well out of the gun like vap does, you have to apply it differently...

Tractol I'm not a fan of

Our supplier does a 1k qd enamel which is very good I was really impressed it drys quite flexible like a poly
We use 2k the most as per customers requests

Polyurethane is quite an oily type substance with poor covering power I find, but once enough coats are applied it is soft and holds a very good shine

I have some Sparex paint (agricolour) but cannot buy their thinners on line due to couriers not able to transport the thinners. On the Sparex website nor on the paint tin there is no mention of the type of thinners to use, I have also tried to contact Sparex but no reply to my request.

What type of thinners do I need to use? Someone has said to use 2k thinners would that be suitable?

A standard thinner or a synthetic type

I'd just use a standard thinner but check it's not a yellow as you get more yellow (unrefined) in the cheaper brands

you do a top class job when it comes to repainting old machinery,

how do you clean off the rust, say off a bonnet, do you use a small sandblaster

Thank you
Yes media blast lightly
But carful or the panel will buckle
If double skinned like braces they need dipping really any rot has to be cut out and replaced (not filled over)

95% of painting is preparation
Get it looking very good in bare steel then it will look great with paint on
