Energizers and fencing

Has anyone tried the Voss fencer units? Looking at 12v fencers and see a Gallagher b60 is a hundred quid for .5 j yet the Voss for the same money is a little over 2j. Not had good experience with Gallagher stuff lately, plenty of unexplained failures requiring expensive boards.
I've found them perfectly adequate. Does what it says on the tin.

I bought one last year, but didn’t get to use it that much. IIRC it was 5J and around £130. Seems very good value and perfectly adequate.

The electronics involved in producing a pulsed shock aren’t exactly complicated, so there’s no reason they should be expensive these days.

I have a Lacme (french) solar fencer from guy in Galway. Great shock off it for last 3 months but now battery is going dead every 7 days? I have charged battery 3 times but loses charge. Any ideas what problem might be?

sounds to me like overcharging could've cooked the battery

If that's the case, its a charging regulator/controller problem

either way the battery should be under guarentee?

Will try that thanks, battery was new from Halfords 3 months ago(trickle charged as reccomended by seller)

Could I recommend Tayna ( https://www.tayna.co.uk ) for batteries. I've used them several times now and the prices & service are exceptional.(y) I needed a new battery on my pick up a couple of months ago and Halfords quoted £165. A Bosch/Exide one delivered next day from Tayna, was about £70.

Sounds like a faulty solar charge regulator if fitted with one? its a common fault, could be as simple as the diode that prevents the battery back-feeding at night.

I'll recommend your local car scrappy. Think of those junkers that people go and buy a fresh battery for so they can drive it to the scrapper, all those batteries get put in a bin and sold for £10-20 a pop depending on size. That's cheap fencing!

I took a half a dozen in to our local scrappy a couple of days ago, completely shot. They paid me just shy of £15 each for them. Why would they sell them out again at anything like the same money, unless they were diddy little ones?:scratchhead:

Ones I get are van batteries maybe 20 quid. They drop test them and give a month guarantee, not that I've had to test it yet

Edit: some obv new by the way they look.

I could see that second garment being a tad itchy round my nether regions when I’m out moving leccy fences. I’m not sure whether a pair of leggings over it would improve matters either, probably just be sweaty and itchy then....:stop:

Perhaps I should just ask Tanya to come and give me some assistance instead?:woot:

Our one sells medium car batteries to us for £10 each, however now we have enough we just take the dead (no longer charge) ones back and swap for fresh ones for £5, happy days.
