Well if it’s not using oil, but it’s breathing then it’s diesel exhaust fumes that are exiting and not burnt oil - I can’t see it being the rings otherwise it would be using oil - valves perhaps ?

and to answer the question all engines breath to some extent - it’s physically impossible for an engine to have totally gas tight rings - we have a New Holland here which breathes as well but the engine is fine with loads of power - had her in the Dyno
