I have engine oil leaking from the exhaust manifold. Any ideas what could be the cause. It seems fairly constant and running down the side of the engine.
The oil is coming out of the exhaust manifold. I reckon it's only coming from one cylinder. If it’s running down the side of the engine is it actually in the manifold as it should be going to the exhaust? Is it not the rocker cover gasket, head gasket or even a porous or cracked head?

Not been worked hard recently. Been on hedge trimmer over winter. How could I find out the exact cause? The engine has done nearly 10k hrs.Is it worked hard? It’s passing the rings, valve stems, or head gasket. Have seen them pass oil after fitting new rings in worn bores but they settle after some hard work.

Its hard work it needs! Top gear, heavy trailer and steep hill required. A morning up and down Portsdown should cure it!
, certain to work, wont blow any out if seized! Though I have read several times on instructions for fitting liners, that the engine must be worked at around eighty percent of full load on completion to bed in the rings.I have an example, Perkins in my Leyland 253 always had a damp oily exhaust as it was not worked quite hard enough by the plough. One day, in an emergency, it was pressed into farm work, and a lad was sent of to collect the baler and sledge. There were some hills on the route, and I dont know what he got up to, but the white coating was burnt off the new exhaust, it had got that hot. Exhaust is dry now though!Kill or cure hey
