Anyone else seeing ergot claims into store for wheat and barley? Not saying it’s not there but I sure can’t find as much in my heap as the seem to be able to find on the weigh bridge in every load.
for this harvest or last year? seeing the odd one into camgrain this year, quite a lot last year.Anyone else seeing ergot claims into store for wheat and barley? Not saying it’s not there but I sure can’t find as much in my heap as the seem to be able to find on the weigh bridge in every load.
This year. Had claims going into a merchant store.for this harvest or last year? seeing the odd one into camgrain this year, quite a lot last year.
ive had ergot in one or two loads this year but hardly anything really. This year. Had claims going into a merchant store.
Can’t go in and watch them pick it?Have been absolutely spanked on loads again today. I swear they have a pocket full for each sample.
Is it downgrade or rejection at mill?We certainly see more claims going into store than into mills.
The difference is that I only need one claim at a mill, the cleaning and the downgrade, to pay for all the colour sorting at the store.
The buyer deducts a £12 ton cleaning charge plus weight loss so a big hammering on price. If it's going for feed I would have thought less scrutiny at intake. Not sure what percentage means rejection. Is it downgrade or rejection at mill?
Bread mill = reject. Then you can try and get it in to an easier tip of only a few.Is it downgrade or rejection at mill?
I am always relieved when CS finds ergot because it means it will be dealt with by colour sorters. Removes the risk and is much cheaper than having to redirect it for extra cleaning, which is rarely worth it.Bread mill = reject. Then you can try and get it in to an easier tip of only a few.
The alternative is cleaning. So think haul to cleaner, cleaning cost, hauling back. So depends how far the cleaner is. In 2012, a load of milling got a redirection and cleaning cost of c£40/t. Which was unfriendly.
I think we all have a list of tips that are fastidious, and those who are less selective.
Extase is meant to be bad for ergot. We usually find it in loads from blackgrassy fields6 loads winter wheat delivered to central store yesterday (Leeds and Skyscraper). 3 loads they found ergot.
How much can you find if you just crouch down at the front of the heap? Several pieces without looking too hard? And are you selling as feed which has a tolerance level or are you trying for human consumption which is zero tolerance?Have been absolutely spanked on loads again today. I swear they have a pocket full for each sample.
Take a sample of your load, scoop a bowl full out that’s around 1kg worth, and pick the ergot. Easy enough to do. Don’t know what acceptable levels are there but here if you’ve got around 20 pieces you’re probably close to over.
So how many pieces in a typical sample? Our official limits are 0.001% in feed grain and zero in food grades.
0.001% of an artic load would be 290g.
What you have written doesn’t make sense. I make it 2.9kg…..Our official limits are 0.001% in feed grain and zero in food grades.
