EU vaccine role out.

well, after vowing not to either read, or post, on this thread, from this fiasco, over vaccines has prompted me to post.
The EU has been appalling over the vaccine, it failed to get it right, now, with severe criticism from its citizens, it jumps in, and demands AZ give it the vaccine, and not to send it to the UK, no quiet conversations, to try and find a way, just threats if we don't send them vaccine made by AZ in the UK, but refusal, so far, to make the contract public, which would show exactly, what and when, the delivery was due, why?
Then france threatening to cut power supplies to jersey, because they have not issued french trawlers fishing permits, and, threatening supplies, again, if they are not allowed to fish in UK waters in 5.5 yrs time.
It actually shows the EU, in a very poor light, in fact, it's abhorrent, and will very likely cause a quicker end to the eu, how do the ardent emigrated farmers, think of that, are they happy, do they think it's ok ?

If I live in just France or France within the Eu, really makes no odds to me.
If I were you I would worry as to my level of irrational hatred to something quite irrelevant to me.
My ex wife was wooed away by another bloke before our youngest was 2, that’s the only time I can think of hating anyone- and I got over that pretty quickly.

Time We thought of our Own Population First Boris.
Keep the Lockdown in place till we have vaccinated the hole of the UK population with Both Doses of the vaccine then we can lift the Lockdown in the UK.
Keep Border controls Restrictions Locked down until other Countries have done the same.
As each country is vaccinated the Borders can open to safe countries.
It will take a long time to Vaccinate the hole World but better to get it right.
Rather than sending Us back in to a Lockdown again.
The UK has led the way with the Vaccine Lets Lead the Way to Doing it Right and Stamping out this Virus Covid 19
Just a thought

A row has erupted in Paris over a hospital union’s allegation that civil servants are getting Covid vaccinations, despite older medical staff being first in the queue.

The CGT union at l’Hôtel-Dieu hospital in central Paris says any such VIP treatment is intolerable, as vaccines are in short supply and French medics are already having their second jabs postponed.

A CGT statement quoted by Le Parisien says: “Daily, the [vaccination] centre’s teams have to refuse medics and vulnerable elderly people, as they are obliged to vaccinate staff from Paris city hall and other VIPs who are not a medical priority!”

Ursula has made it clear, that “best efforts” clause was with regards to development of a vaccine. She says, very specific terms were written into the contract binding AZ to supplying certain amounts of vaccine, from all four European plants, assuming a vaccine was successfully developed and approved. Now the development and approval are in the past, and so also “best efforts”.
From here on in, deliver at a contractual pre agreed rate, kicks in.
I get the impression Ursula is probably accurate. She doesn’t appear to be thy type to get hard facts wrong.

I also get the feeling that in a global sense, the demand for vaccines will in the short to medium term totally overwhelm the “optimistic forecasts” given by the pharma industry as a whole.
This current EU spat, is a reflection of many more disappointments to follow over the next year.

I presume you mean has ordered these doses. I dont think these doses are already stored.
I am sure I read somewhere that the EU has ordered something like 1.2 billion doses of vaccine from various sources and I wonder what the popuation of the EU is ?
I didnt think it was that much. Perhaps you can clarify ?
Covax is buying more doses and will send them to countries that can't afford them.
An African country last night said they could only get 25 doses. Didn't see all the report so can't clarify , I'll see what comes up later.

This argument suggests to me two things one is that the EU is trying to bully and the other is that there is a genuine misunderstanding.
If it is the second why is it all being played out in public.?
Even if the EU are correct the stance they are taking is strange( and alarming). With something like this , in these times, quiet negotiation and discussion out of the public eye must surely be best

The French civil service see themselves as the heirs to the Republic, a sort of untouchable ruling class. They were prepared to extradite me and let me languish in prison due to false tax evasion charges brought about by their own incompetence. I’d have absolutely zero trust or confidence in them. They are largely self serving parasites of the highest order who strike at the drop of a hat if anybody challenges their privileges or heaven forbid asks them to something at more than snails pace. This story doesn’t surprise me at all and only reinforces my long held view that we are so much better off having absolutely nothing to do with them.

You didn’t ask me but my short answer.
I really dislike any “Nationalism”
Some horrid song from our youth... people are people (y)

Their is a difference between nationalism and own control. I don’t support radical nationalism but having control of your own destiny through a parliament we can vote on every 4 years Max is not a bad thing. It could be argued that the EU is “nationalism” just on a grander scale. I’m sure thats what the rest of the world believe - just look how long it takes for the EU to do trade deals. Ultimately the world is an un equal place and when you study economics, it really can’t be anything else - unless you have absolute communism I suppose then again China is meant to be a communist state but they now have a rapidly growing very wealthy group in their country which looks like capitalism to me

no

what it does say is that vaccine should be distributed to member states on a prorata basis of the original order

the eu obviously forgot that the uk is not amember state when going off the deep end this week

what a mess

hopefully the uks vaccine plants will not have any hold ups and will by the autmn supplying the eu with millions of doses

all stamped with a union jack and stating produced in the uk for the sake of humanity
Well 5.4 says the UK is included in the EU for this clause?

Ms VDL* is in no position to make '...it clear, that “best efforts” clause was with regards to development of a vaccine...', she is forgetting her place. She is President of the EC, not a judge. She can make all the claims she likes, but it simply doesn't affect the law, even a plain-reading of the contract she has adduced demonstrates that AZ are in the clear.

*that sounds like a bit like an underwear issue...

Well 5.4 says the UK is included in the EU for this clause?
Difficult for them, because that argues directly against both UK and EU law as of the end of January 2020.

Well 5.4 says the UK is included in the EU for this clause?
they include uk plants so that astra could use them to supply the eu if the needed to rather than having to use the plants in the eu

the fundamentle issue is that phizor cannot deliver the french vaccine has failled to be ready this year so now their manufacuring plant will be turned over to phizor vaccine manufacture

the other problem the eu has is that getting phizor vaccine to people is not straight forward it needs big vaccination centres where as the astra vaccine can be carted about in smaller lots with out specialist kit
this means the phizor vaccine takes more person hours to get 1 million vaccinated

the eu has not even passed the vaccine for use yet
does it realy take so long to pass a paper around the eu
