I’ve not tried to sell it for milling so far. But my merchant suggests keeping it separate from any other varieties in case it might attract a premium. What is everyone’s experience of trying to hit 13% protein with Extase ?
What level of N did you put on when the yield was 6.7t/ha (excluding the Nufol) ?I had some that yielded much worse than expected two years ago (did around 6.7t/ha). Hit 14% protein though with and without a Nufol dose. Decent kg/hl too. Will probably try and aim for over 12.5% this year though as ADM mills will take it as a group 1.
Last year put on a more typical feed dose at 220kgs with no Nufol and it yielded decently (9-9.5t/ha) but proteins were only around the 11.5% mark.

Also, have you noticed any Septoria this year yet?
Ah yes, I remember now. It sort of did a Moulin, didn’t it?About 220 kg/ha. Yield was a shock (not uncommon for Extase from other's experiences). It had looked the best crop on the farm until harvest.
My experience of higher yielding milling wheat is that most years it requires 300kgN/ha to get anywhere near 13% protein. It’s been looked into deeply by independant agronomy group. There’s a thread on here somewhere last year about Extase. Loads of issues with it from multiple sources.
Just like so many things - a few are very vocal and not necessarily the whole truth. It’s been looked into deeply by independant agronomy group.
Essentially what happend was most of the places there was real issues involved late su herbicides and frost. A lot of people were caught out by how much of a quick developer it is and got timings wrong.
I believe quite a few were so vocal about it because they had their whole area into extase!
There is nothing wrong with the variety.

Do you grow extase on a seed contract?Just like so many things - a few are very vocal and not necessarily the whole truth.
It was niab, I don’t have a link but they said it all in a meetingNo, su here applied, is there a link to this independent repot please.
Not so in depth as I'd hoped, hopefully history won't repeat itself this year,It was niab, I don’t have a link but they said it all in a meeting
I thought the problems were caused by being drilled too early and then the very last frosts last spring, that's what I was told anyway
