Looks like the dead one was being reabsorbed after dying in utero. If the other is blind, he may have been on the brink of the same. Neither look obviously Schmallenburg to me ~ but I've just seen the wonky leg.
We hoped to be away from schmallenburg as it’s cooler and often breezy so very few times we get much midge trouble.Looks like the dead one was being reabsorbed after dying in utero. I've only seen a handful of Schmallenburg lambs. They arrived within the same week, and were quite obvious. We hoped to be away from schmallenburg as it’s cooler and often breezy so very few times we get much midge trouble.
We bought in 50 Cheviot ewes that came from further south , but that was in September and they were tupped by our own rams , ironically it’s those that are the main problem cases
Saying that I’ve learnt that often your buying some one else’s problems
I suppose, it has to get better, our own ewes so far have all had good lambs .I've only seen a handful of Schmallenburg lambs. They arrived within the same week, and were quite obvious.
Agreed about buying in problems. That's how enzo arrived. We were too trusting of a good shopfront.
There's often a mini fup mid way through lambing ~ on the boundary between first and second cycles. Once over that, things are often back plain sailing again.I suppose, it has to get better, our own ewes so far have all had good lambs .
There’s always something! It can drive you crazy, hope you get sortedEntering the eponymous stage for the next lot of lambers. It's the return of pink eye. The ewe tested last month came back as mycoplasma, which doesn't respond to antibiotics ~ but doesn't mean that that's what these new cases are. At least they're all indoors this time. Fingers crossed it's only going through the hoggs, and then that they'll be better before they lamb.
Thanks. Sheep have a great sense of timing and humourThere’s always something! It can drive you crazy, hope you get sorted
Amen to thatWishing all an uneventful night out lambing
Fun and games!!!I got a bit caught out crawling around under a static caravan searching for leaks !
I’ll get a bunch out tomorrow, we have a little field next to the big shed, it’s a good shelter from the wind
And my vet students are here tomorrow…
They can witness ringing and tailing then they can take them outside
Bit of an event here around the time of your good wishes.Wishing all an uneventful night out lambing
It’s surprising how much sheep can drink, especially when the sheds freeze and you cart water to the troughsI often find they'll drink half a bucket of water as soon as they're up from lambing. More after a bit of a wrestling match.
Oh yes indeed...It’s surprising how much sheep can drink, especially when the sheds freeze and you cart water to the troughs
Yes, this was certainly the case.I often find they'll drink half a bucket of water as soon as they're up from lambing. More after a bit of a wrestling match.
Far too cute for their own good... Cracking lambs.Amen to that
On a brighter note, after all the cold, wet days we've had, tonight was the first night I've seen this little gang have a bit of a gallop about...
Makes a nice change from seeing them huddled up in the hedge bottom
