Looks like the dead one was being reabsorbed after dying in utero. If the other is blind, he may have been on the brink of the same. Neither look obviously Schmallenburg to me ~ but I've just seen the wonky leg.

We hoped to be away from schmallenburg as it’s cooler and often breezy so very few times we get much midge trouble.
We bought in 50 Cheviot ewes that came from further south , but that was in September and they were tupped by our own rams , ironically it’s those that are the main problem cases 🤔
Saying that I’ve learnt that often your buying some one else’s problems

I've only seen a handful of Schmallenburg lambs. They arrived within the same week, and were quite obvious.

Agreed about buying in problems. That's how enzo arrived. We were too trusting of a good shopfront.

Entering the eponymous stage for the next lot of lambers. It's the return of pink eye. The ewe tested last month came back as mycoplasma, which doesn't respond to antibiotics ~ but doesn't mean that that's what these new cases are. At least they're all indoors this time. Fingers crossed it's only going through the hoggs, and then that they'll be better before they lamb.

Wishing all an uneventful night out lambing 🐑 🐑 🌕
Bit of an event here around the time of your good wishes.

Old gal with Triplets who had been a bit mardy for a couple of days started around 8-8.30 and popped the first out. Left her to see if she kept going, but seemed to lose interest. So Steph (fresh from her Lambing course at the local Vet's) cracked on and sorted out a muddle of feet and head, got it presented properly and pulled No2, I got on with the resuss, and she pulled the last backwards. Tad nervous, but I said the ewe was open properly and it should slip out which it did with a pull. (y)

Got No. 3 breathing well and moved the ewe and lambs into a pen, and set about getting some milk off her to tube the lambs as they were a bit groggy... But, the Milk was as thick as axle grease!.... :(

So I warmed some colostrum from the freezer, and did all 3 with a overnight feed, one under a lamp tonight and see what Mum is like in the morning🤞 Wondering is she was dehydrated as she drank a full minpot of water... ?

So A great start for Steph and delighted she managed a successful lambing, FuF strikes with the ewe....

We seem to be getting far too many lambs that just don’t get going a die after a day or so after a bit of work. Annoying but at least we have plenty of pets to put on. Been really busy here over the weekend a had to clear a lot of sheep out early, 3 lambs had to come back in this morning 🙄. Jus the usual problems I suppose.
