Just let a ewe out of the stocks where she's been for a week because she didn't want one of her lambs, well she's treating them both equally now..........you can guess the rest
Why have you lot still got scanned empty’s about. Mine go the day after scanning.
We keep our younger empties, cost nowt to keep them around till next tupping time when you can just turn them out onto the fell, usually sell older empties first opportunity after scanning but still got them this time, didn't realise how long meat withdrawal was on supaverm and I'd just dosed them so they'll go shortly with a few lambing casualties to put with themMine will be young sheep/ first timers so I’ll give them another chance
Kill or cure dose....Took the wife to see the lambs in the sunshine this afternoon so of course there was a ewe dying of mastitis. Hunched up and generally very sick looking. Typically it's a really good hogg that lambed triplets on her own and was rearing a mega set of twins and was a really good attentive mother. Big jag of draaxin, metacam and betamox and hope she lives to survive the withdrawal period. 2 big lambs in the cade pen picking at creep so they'll be fine but f**k sake!
That's the one! She's at home on the lawn so at least if she does drop dead I won't have to traipse across the field to fetch her.Kill or cure dose....
Good to hear you can find one positive there....That's the one! She's at home on the lawn so at least if she does drop dead I won't have to traipse across the field to fetch her.
...and it gets the lawn cut...win, win...unless she decides to stop eating!Good to hear you can find one positive there....
Did well to catch the lambs. I was doing well at getting every one off dead ewes and mastitis ewes, got a few running about now though causing problems (think they spreed the mastitis pinching) so will have to get the catching dog on the job.Took the wife to see the lambs in the sunshine this afternoon so of course there was a ewe dying of mastitis. We had one, who'd been on the bottle a fair while, fostered onto a ewe who's lamb was 'born in a bag'.Mr in Skin still alive, she hasn't killed him and he hasn't starved. Still needs a bit of supervision, looking hopeful. UNTIL I was fiddling with the sprayer peeing disinfectant all over my hand, and heard scraping. She's licking and chewing at the plywood divider wall OMG. Twitchy eye. Bit skittery.
Just got the calmag in her, TLD, and a chunk of salt in her dish. She's eating cut grass so hopefully I caught it in time. I can only think the lamb has pulled a lot out of her pretty quickly. He was only 24 hours old but well on the go and could suck a bottle down no problem.
I'm half a mind to give him a half bottle this evening to let her get going again. Defo getting the green cable tie, one misstep next year and gone. Her lamb died in the cowl.
Going to have to remember that one. It can go alongside a mucking fuddle! We had one, who'd been on the bottle a fair while, fostered onto a ewe who's lamb was 'born in a bag'.
It was while our vet student was here. We never saw him suck. His new mum didn't mind him being there but didn't really love him - every time you went past, they were sitting at opposite ends of the pen.
It was the students job to keep an eye on them and put him on to suck.
He just wouldn't suck at all. After a couple of days, she tried him with a bottle. Little sod wouldn't have that either.
He never looked empty though.
One night on a late shed check, I didn't disturb anything but went up into the lambing cabin, up in the roof, and peeped through the window....

..the bafty little crastard had been playing us for mugs, all along, and having a drink when nobody was looking
I was surprised as well! Probably helps theyre on a little patch and the lady who owns the ground and has been keeping the water topped up, has 2 little girls who have been taming them with carrots and handfuls of corn so they're not that wild. I did have to run the bigger one into a corner of a pen I've got down there but the smaller one was very friendly. So you don't need the dog just a few small childrenDid well to catch the lambs. In time, in time!!As long as she brings the rest.
Same here. treated her last night with Trymox LA and Metacam, and spoke with vet this evening and will change AB (Synulox) in the morning, and possibly a tube. One side is shot. so it's keeping her alive to cull... 3 week old lambs will be caded I suspect One last week responded well, but we caught it quickly...3 with mastitis today in the field, all twins, different nt think weather is helping, cold north easterly winds
Just found another, disheartening to say the least. Is Synulox good for it, I have a bottle in the fridge, just used Trymox hereSame here. treated her last night with Trymox LA and Metacam, and spoke with vet this evening and will change AB (Synulox) in the morning, and possibly a tube.
